Your correspondent was on the road this week celebrating a birthday and as often happens, we met a fascinating character just by chance while having lunch in a little town in East Sussex. It turns out that the lady at the table next to us with her two dachshunds, Colin and Henry, is Lisa Jones, a global pioneer woman of Motor Trials, the incredibly athletic and tough non speed motorcycling racing sport. She debuted in her sport by winning the toughest of all races, the Scottish six day trial, beating the other 281 male contestants aged at the tender age of eighteen, riding a 200cc bike modified from a 125cc by her dad, Derek Jones. She told us that she has since run both the New York and London marathons but this was the toughest athletic race she's ever completed! Lisa ended up travelling the world as a young Motor trials champion and was one of the first women to be sponsored by the iconic Italian FANTIC MOTOR S.P.A. designers and makers of the elite motorbike she would race in the United States as well as Europe. We just loved her story and have been wondering how it is that such a groundbreaking sportswoman is so little known! Wouldn't she be a brilliant ambassador even all these years later? We found some photos - shot of course pre digital tech - and learned that her dad was a filmproducer so there is lots of footage. I know, this isn't strictly related (or at all really!) to Out of Home Advertising but we just found her life story fascinating and wanted to share it! It's an interesting development we first noticed in London last September when the Evening Standard, long known as the capital's commuter newspaper, succumbed to the power of digital and decided to move to weekly publication after 200 years in print every day. We thought it was interesting that the announcement was made via #ooh and several hundred roadside and digital billboards including 30 JCDecaux UK towers inundated London in the weeks that followed. This week, in Milan, our colleague Nicol Bernucci noticed that magazines - in this case, ELLE Magazine celebrating 80 amazing years and its Fashion issue - are also starting to use #ooh to publicise their new - or special - editions. (Happy birthday Elle!) We are old enough to remember newspaper posters, outside stations, bus stops and newsagents everywhere...oh the nostalgia! This is just a more sophisticated, eye catching and undoubtedly efficient way of grabbing readers attention. We love it. A 'pinch me, I must be dreaming moment': for us as well as the German internet sensation Lena Mantler who snapped a photo of herself in front of our latest painted wall for Prada Group Miu Miu Spring Summer collection. Lena is one of the stars of the 'Duet' campaign, with Liu Haocun, Kayije Kagame, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, Joey Kingand Eliot Sumner, an eclectic group chosen by Miuccia Prada to symbolise simplicity and respite from the complexities of modern life and the layered nature of adult existence. We love every moment of this - from the shots of the mural being painted by one of Colossal Media's fantastic artists - to the excited and happy star finding her painted self on this wall, on the corner of bustling Grand and Lafayette streets in New York. #oohmarketing #oohfashion #luxuryfashion #paintedwalls

Okay, we don't normally get political on this page but cannot help but get a little frisson of secretive joy when OOH goes subversive and just one clever (and to the point) message goes viral. Created by a UK activist group, it appeared in the lead up to the German elections this weekend and in protest against Elon Musk's support for Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. So, without any comment at all ..... we post this little gem of creativity found on a bus shelter on Pollard Row in our beloved London town. A lightning visit out of London for your scribe to the seaside town of Whitstable to see an exhibition of embroidery .... profane embroidery to be exact! It's an annual event and the work is done by local women who use needlework to protest, shout, make fun - and swear out their annoyances. It is great fun but most of the works are way too rude to post on LinkedIn. Instead, here are a few of our very favourite wall graffiti (and a couple of printable works) from our quick jaunt around this delightful part of the south Kent coast. It is difficult to imagine what it must be like to navigate life in the wake of the devastating wildfires that broke out in and around Los Angeles in the last weeks. Your scribe here grew up in Australia where bushfires wreak havoc on nature and man almost every year without fail - and it's only getting worse as climate change dries the continent even more. I guess this is a long and round about way of saying that we have just received night and day photos of the 'illumicade' on Sunset and Laurel Avenue in LA for Prada Group's Spring Summer campaign. A couple of days ago we shared some photos of our work in the Big Apple as Overall Murals specialist artists meticulously painted a moody and intriguing image for Prada Group's Miu Miu Spring Summer fashion campaign. We have enjoyed watching the work as it took shape on one of the very best 'look at me' walls in New York city. This is a spot on the corner of Prince and Mercer streets and one of our favourites as it is both a pedestrian and traffic stopper high above the bustle of Soho. So, you've seen this gem in the making and now, here it is finished, turning heads and attracting oooohs and 🤩 !
