🧬🔬 Exciting breakthrough in #GeneticResearch: a new study highlights how anomalies in DNA sequences can have different effects depending on their positioning with respect to chromatine folding. Published in Genome Medicine and led by Dr. Giampaolo Trivellin – Neuroendocrinology Research Coordinator at the Translational Endocrinology Laboratory and Assistant Professor at Humanitas University, the research focuses on the GPR101 gene, which is linked to a rare form of pituitary gigantism, revealing that not all duplications lead to the same outcomes. Done in collaboration with researchers Martin Franke from the Andalusian Center for Developmental Biology (CABD) CSIC-UPO-JA in Seville, and Adrian Daly from the University Hospital Center in Liège (Endo-ERN - European Reference Network), and thanks to the support of Fondazione Telethon, this study sheds new light on the role of DNA's three-dimensional structure in disease expression. It opens new doors for more accurate diagnosis and personalised treatments for those affected by rare genetic conditions. Yesterday, our PhD students had the opportunity to meet and discuss with Giannicola Genovese from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center during our weekly journal club. Introduced by Sara Lovisa, Genovese also delivered an insightful seminar on the role of cell plasticity and clonal heterogeneity as drivers of cancer progression, metastatic dissemination, and resistance to therapy, a field where he is giving seminal contributions. Great to have you here! #HumanitasResearch #Hunimed #PhDstudents #CancerResearch

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to host on campus Pilar Martín – Group Leader at the CNIC - Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research / Centro Nac. Investigaciones Cardiovasc. Martín is a leader in the field of autoimmunity and cardiovascular diseases, such as myocarditis and myocardial infarction, and she contributed to the discovery of new circulating biomarkers for these diseases. Introduced by Group Leader Marinos Kallikourdis, Martín shed light on the cardiovascular risks associated with cancer immunotherapies and shared her latest research aimed at enhancing our understanding and diagnosis of these critical conditions. A big thank you to Prof. Martín for your enlightening discussion! 🌟 #HumanitasResearch #Hunimed #Autoimmunity #CardiovascularResearch

🤝🔬 Today at CPHI in Milan, Paola Vella – Head of Technology Transfer at Humanitas Research Hospital and Humanitas University, participated in a panel discussing how to bring academia’s technological insights into biomanufacturing processes and strategies. "The future of biomanufacturing and therapeutic innovation will emerge from the growing cooperation and cross-fertilization between the pharmaceutical industry and academia. Fostering this cooperation should be a shared mission across the Italian life science network: we need the industry to engage with frontier science, and scientists to be informed by entrepreneurial culture." Moderated by Felice Lopane – Life Science Head and Managing Director at Assolombarda and at Cluster lombardo scienze della vita, the panel also featured Daniela Ubiali – Associate Professor of Fermentation Chemistry and Biotechnology at Università di Pavia; Rosa Maria Moresco – Full Professor of In Vitro Molecular Imaging and Radiopharmaceutical Development at Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca; Maria Pia Abbracchio – Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Università degli Studi di Milano. 🚀 Together, we can drive innovation by merging cutting-edge research with an entrepreneurial mindset. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible in life sciences! #HumanitasResearch #Hunimed #PharmaInnovation #LifeSciences

🌍💡 Over the past two days, a multidisciplinary panel of global experts convened at Humanitas to address the pressing challenges in national and transnational health decision-making processes. In the organizing committee, also Prof. Holger Schünemann – Director of the Clinical Epidemiology and Research Center at Humanitas University, together with Tanja Kuchenmuller, Lorenzo Moja, Marge Reinap and Rebekah Thomas from World Health Organization. The event, titled “The Ecosystem of Health Decision-Making: governance of data, structures, and processes", was held under the aegis of the WHO Regional Office for Europe to further advance the development of a new decision-making approach called “Theory of Everything” (ToE). 🤝 It aims to reconcile how evidence is used across multiple health systems to further reduce decision instability and speed up the implementation of better solutions in medicine and public health. #HumanitasResearch #Hunimed #HealthInnovation #GlobalHealth

🎤 Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome Kristina Havas-Cavalletti to the Humanitas Seminar Series, expertly introduced by Prof. Roberto Rusconi. Kristina is a Junior Group Leader at IFOM, where she studies breast cancer, focusing on tumor metabolism and the way it’s affected by both genetics and the local environment, also in the form of mechanical stimuli and stressors. Her insightful talk reminded us of the key role played by physical properties and constraints in biology. A heartfelt thank you to Kristina for sharing her wisdom and sparking our curiosity. Let's continue to explore the wonders of biology together! #HumanitasResearch #humanitasuniversity #cancer #cancermetabolism #microenvironment
