📜 Storytelling about Anglo American Hotel Florence📜 ~ 4th November 1966 ~ Before 1966, 4 November was a public holiday in #Florence. It was called 'Victory Day', because the anniversary of the victory of Italy against Austria and the end of the First World War on 4 November 1918 were celebrated. Since that year, however, 4 November has not been associated with an idea of celebration, but of pain and rebirth, becoming a day of remembrance and #memory, forever linked to terrible moments: those of the flood. Exactly 58 years ago, after ten days of uninterrupted rain, the Arno in fact overflowed ravaging part of the city, Taking victims and causing immense damage to the priceless artistic heritage of the cradle of the #Renaissance. Water entered homes, shops, monuments, libraries, hospitals. Invading the Baptistery, it arrived inside Palazzo Vecchio, in the Cathedral as in the National Library, until reaching a level of almost five meters! It will cause serious damage to many works of art and the heritage of historical libraries: thousands of volumes, including valuable manuscripts, were swallowed up by mud. With the telephone lines cut off, Florence was completely isolated The Anglo American Hotel still bears the mark of the past event. A testimony to the #strenght of Florence and reminder of the rich history that surrounds us. Fausto Simone #history #hotel #florence #hilton #memories #storytelling #esg
