🌿 Reflecting on yesterday's successful conference about the carob tree at the G7 Agriculture meeting in Syracuse 🌿 It was an honor for LBG Sicilia to host such an insightful event during the G7 Agriculture meeting in Syracuse. The conference highlighted the unique resilience and challenges of the carob tree in the context of climate change, emphasizing the need for institutional support to preserve and promote the cultivation of carob trees. This effort is crucial not only for our industry but also for the environment, our region, and future generations. The carob tree is an incredible species that can contribute to the fragile ecosystems of the Mediterranean area by promoting biodiversity and preventing desertification in certain geographical areas, thanks to its resistance to droughts and parasites. With historical and cultural insights from demo-ethnic-anthropologist Alessandro D’Amato, knowledge from distinguished professor Stefano La Malfa, and expertise from skilled agronomists Giuseppe Cicero and Massimiliano Brugaletta, we explored innovative solutions to boost carob tree cultivation, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices and a steady supply of its derivatives. The event concluded with a delightful aperitivo at the Regione Sicilia stand in Piazza Duomo, prepared by Chef Accursio Craparo, who creatively incorporated our ingredients and upcycled ingredients derived from the carob into his culinary creations. We are grateful to all the esteemed speakers, attendees, chefs, and cooks for their contributions.
