💳 🇦🇺 Card-related fraud in Australia hit nearly $1 billion in 2024, driven largely by the theft of 16-digit card numbers, according to AusPayNet data. That’s why Mastercard is phasing out the 16-digit number from physical cards in Australia, securing details in the banking app to give consumers more control and stop fraudsters in their tracks. Richard Wormald, our Division President for Australasia, joined Seven Network's Sunrise this morning to share how this innovation will make a difference: “This has become a billion-dollar problem we have to fix ... instead of getting out your card and putting in the same fixed number in all these websites, you go to your banking app, you can then spin up a single-use card that you as a consumer can then control.” By empowering consumers with more controls and dynamic single-use card numbers, we’re raising the bar for security and enabling Australians to transact with greater peace of mind.
