🛡️It was an absolute pleasure to visit the Royal Military Academy, Belgium and to hear CHOD Vanisa about Belgium's national defence and strategic priorities. Thank you General for the great insights shared with our delegation today! 🇧🇪

Today I had the privilege of addressing the students of the NATO Defence College (Rome) during their visit in Belgium. In critical times, their presence serves as a symbol for NATO’s unity and enduring relevance. Europe faces a dangerous and unpredictable world, therefore we discussed the importance of readiness and transformation during the conference. Being prepared for high-intensity conflict requires more than just budgets and strategic plans: it demands real people, advanced equipment and a constant state of readiness. Only credible military capabilities can ensure our deterrence and unity. As future decision-makers, the students of the NDC have an important role to play. Moreover, with new technologies reshaping warfare, they can be part of the innovation push.

⚓ "The hunt for Red October in warmer oceans - Climate change and anti-submarine warfare", by Andrea Gilli and Mauro Gilli Security scholars have traditionally looked at climate change from the perspective of civil wars, migrations and pervasive instability. NATO has recently started looking at climate change as one of the main threat–multipliers characterizing the current international system. Climate change can have a real impact on interstate rivalry and strategic competition, specifically by affecting water temperatures, currents and salinity, and thus sonar performance – a key asset in submarine and anti-submarine warfare. NATO researchers are studying the alliance’s worst-case scenarios — before they happen. Dr Florence Gaub and her team at the NATO Defense College are hunting for “weak signals” — subtle shifts that could spiral into crises, from a Russian missile strike on a NATO state to panic over bioweapons. “If you spot a trend very early, you buy yourself a lot more time to respond,” Gaub told Business Insider. Gaub’s biggest fear? A Russian hybrid attack triggering Article 5 — only for allies to hesitate. “The one thing everybody at NATO fears is calling the day on Article 5 and discovering that not all allies are on board,” Gaub said.
