Today in Kyiv, our Managing Partner, Giulio De Carli, presented three visionary pilot projects that are part of the concept city masterplan at the “Mykolaiv - A City on the Wave” conference. Each of which focuses on initiatives for a resilient and economically dynamic Mykolaiv: 🏗️Revitalization of the Mykolaiv Shipyard for restoring Mykolaiv’s industrial heritage as a cornerstone of its modern identity.  🚤Aquaport Mykolaiv to promote sustainable, water-centered facility that reconnects the city with its rich maritime legacy.  🔧Mykolaiv Industrial Park for creating a forward-thinking industrial hub for circular economic growth. Giulio also explained how the masterplan aims to support Blue Economy Platform through feasible and environmentally sustainable practices, with implementation planned across several phases. Giulio shared: “The brief we received from UNDP focused on regenerating the city, and while we brought our expertise, we built on this with a strong community engagement strategy from the start. We designed with local realities in mind, recognizing existing structures and integrating them with new development. The result is a cohesive urban environment, where new and old connect, improving links within the city and to a broader infrastructure network.” We are honored to contribute to this ambitious vision for Mykolaiv, with support from the European Union, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, UNDP Ukraine, and Innovation Fund Denmark. Yesterday, our Managing Partner, Leonardo Cavalli, joined leading voices in architecture at the Costruire per il Futuro conference at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, a collaborative effort we thank Saint-Gobain Italia and Studio Marco Piva for! The conference addressed the unique challenges and exciting opportunities that contemporary architecture faces in a global economy increasingly focused on sustainability and innovation. As part of the event, an exhibition featured eight artworks crafted by participating architecture firms, each offering a unique take on these pressing themes. Leonardo presented Club Sandwich: Un'architettura che si consuma, a pop-art piece linking architecture and cooking. He said, “Why a club sandwich? We received a mystery box and sent back a dish.” Each of the 15 unique materials in the box had individual value, but the real challenge was synthesizing them into a unified whole, just like in cooking, where true artistry lies in creating something greater than the sum of its parts. Innovation in architecture blends diverse elements into a cohesive masterpiece, just like in the kitchen. Chef One Works recommends 🥪

Raw concrete and dramatic light create a striking scene at the Riga Airport Rail Station, currently under construction. This unfinished structure reveals the intricate network of beams and columns, creating a powerful sense of geometry and scale. BSL Infra recently shared exciting progress on the construction of the new #RailBaltica High-Speed Railway Station at RIX Riga Airport, designed by SINTAGMA S.R.L. and One Works. Antanandava is a small, remote village in Madagascar where children and the elderly face immense challenges, including limited access to education, healthcare, and basic necessities. To support this community, WIP FOR PEOPLE and Medit srl have launched the DORA project: a vital initiative to build a school, infirmary, and canteen for around 120 children and the wider community. Our architects, michele pugliese and Luca Bonazzoli, proudly contributed to this meaningful cause through their sketches. Michele’s piece, Notes from a Journey Never Taken, explores the theme of the "windowless room" as a key part of community life, a space essential for sustaining homes and families which is often overlooked but ever-present. Luca’s work, Stepping Inside, complements this by imagining a space where the boundaries between inside and outside blur, symbolizing an ethereal realm that represents the human desire to rise above the burdens of everyday life. Yesterday, the preliminary auction featuring 18 artworks, including Michele and Luca's, was held to raise funds for the construction of the DORA Village. Why is it crucial to think, talk and plan now for the sustainable recovery of Mykolaiv in Ukraine? On 14th October, One Works will be presenting the UN4Mykolaiv Initiative during ‘The Concept Masterplan for the City of Mykolaiv' event co-organized by the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Finance for Infrastructure and Smart Cities (ExSUF), established by UNECE and LIUC University, together with One Works Foundation. Guest speakers will discuss the response to the ongoing conflict through the #UN4UkrainianCities project, which reached out to international professionals specializing in integrated design and economic planning to define Masterplan guidelines for the reconstruction and urban regeneration of Mykolaiv. The main results of the international team working on the project for the creation of a new “concept master plan” for the city of Mykolaiv and other pilot projects will also be presented. Last week, One Works had the privilege of participating in the 85th session of the UNECE Committee on Urban Development, Housing, and Land Management at the United Nations in Geneva. The session focused on sustainable urban recovery in Ukraine, highlighting our work in Mykolaiv as part of the UN4UkrainianCities initiative. One Works Senior Urban Designer and Associate Director, Francesca Pintus, presented the latest updates on the Mykolaiv Concept Masterplan, developed in close collaboration with the Mykolaiv City Council and UNECE. Together with a global team of experts, we’re working on the city’s recovery through an actionable plan and five pilot projects aimed at transforming the urban environment. 🗣️ Reflecting on the project, Francesca Pintus shared: “For an urbanist, it is quite challenging to reimagine a city without seeing it.
