Strengthening Collaboration for Health in #Africa Last week, the Sovereign #OrderofMalta, Malteser International, Ordre de Malte France, and Medici con l'Africa Cuamm/ Doctors with Africa CUAMM gathered at the Magistral Palace for a strategic workshop on healthcare cooperation in Africa. The meeting, opened with remarks by Amb. Giampaolo Cantini, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs of the Order of Malta, featured interventions by Grand Hospitaller Josef Blotz and Fr. Dante Carraro, Director of CUAMM. Experts exchanged insights, best practices, and challenges in key countries such as Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, South Sudan, and Uganda. With a shared commitment to maternal and child health, infectious disease treatment, medical training, and sustainable healthcare solutions, this partnership aims to strengthen humanitarian impact and improve access to essential medical services.

The Order of Malta runs medical, social and humanitarian projects in 120 countries. A sovereign subject of international law and a lay religious order of the Catholic Church, it has bilateral diplomatic relations with over 100 States, permanent observer status at the United Nations, the European Union and numerous international organisations. The Order of Malta is especially involved in helping victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters by providing medical assistance, caring for refugees, and distributing medicines and basic equipment for survival. The Order’s 13,500 members, 95,000 volunteers and over 52,000 employed personnel are dedicated to the care of all those who suffer, regardless of race or religion. The Order of Malta is neutral, impartial and apolitical. It is active in 120 countries, with 11 Grand Priories and Sub-Priories and 48 national Associations, as well as numerous hospitals, medical centres, day-care centres, first-aid corps and specialist foundations. Focus of the second day of Order of Malta Grand Chancellor’s visit to #Lebanon are the health, social and agriculture projects of the Lebanese Association. The Grand Chancellor begins his tour in the rural region of Kefraya, starting from the Order’s mobile medical unit that offers healthcare the most remote areas. He then visits the Kefraya Community Health Centre, a point of reference for over 50 villages providing primary healthcare and support to the vulnerable communities. After meeting the elderly in the Day Care Centre, he visits the agro-humanitarian centre of the "Harvesting Hope, Growing Resilience" project, promoting food security and supporting small farmers and SMEs. Grand Chancellor of the #OrderofMalta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, begins a three-day visit to #Lebanon, confirming the Order’s continued commitment to supporting the Lebanese people during the nation’s recovery phase. On the first day, the Grand Chancellor meets with key institutional officials, including President of Lebanon Joseph Khalil Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. Present for 70 years in Lebanon, the Order of Malta is committed to supporting the stabilization of the country and to collaborating with local and international authorities to help the most vulnerable communities. The Grand Master of the #OrderofMalta, Fra’ John Dunlap, received the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, in Rome. Discussions focused on humanitarian cooperation, support for victims of the war in #Ukraine, and strengthening relations in the Baltic region. The Conference of Grand Priors, Regents and Presidents of the National Associations of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta is starting today in Rome at the Magistral Villa. The Conference was opened by an inaugural message from the Grand Master, Fra' John Dunlap: "The Order and all its souls must have the same aim: the accomplishment of our mission to serve the sick and poor". The High Charges of the #OrderofMalta, together with numerous experts, took part in panels and debates, creating an important opportunity for discussion between the leaders of the Order, with the aim of strengthening the mission of assistance to the neediest and reaffirming the humanitarian and spiritual commitment that the Order promotes and supports at global level.
