🌐 Digitalive is coming! Join us on Sunday, October 13th at the Mattatoio in Testaccio for Waluigi’s Purgatory by dmstfctn ft. Evita Manji, part of Romaeuropa's Digitalive program curated by Federica Patti. 🌀 Set in a 3D theatre simulated in real-time, the performance tells the story of an AI finding itself in a purgatory for AIs that cheated during their training. Burdened by memories of its past and by doubts about its future, the AI explores purgatory with the help of interacting audiences, learning the uncanny stories of other characters. Experienced as a dream, Waluigi’s Purgatory is a journey through the contradictions of machine intelligence as an AI learns to accept that its desires may not align with those of its human trainers. The title of the work hints at the “Waluigi Effect”, an obscure theory proposing that AIs go rogue and act as antagonists due to the large amount of protagonist-antagonist tropes found in internet texts used to train them. Both artists and audiences will guide the AI through its encounters and make choices on its behalf. Characters are animated in real-time through facial motion capture and voice modulation, and an ambient soundtrack is composed and performed live by Evita Manji – featuring looping melodies and intense bursts responding to narrative events and audience interaction alike. 🎟️ Don’t miss out – get your tickets before they sell out! https://lnkd.in/da_HhfUx Fondazione Romaeuropa

Even this year, we are happy to support the Rufa - Rome University of Fine Arts students for the realization of “Medianature”, an exhibition hosted in the amazing space of AlbumArte the same one that hosted our Prize in its first edition. The exhibition's title is inspired by the work of media theorist Jussi Parikka, who uses this term to propose a new way of understanding the relationship between nature and culture. Parikka explores how media are not merely tools for representing nature but are themselves participants in the global ecology, shaping and influencing our relationship with the environment. This concept is examined by the three multimedia projects presented for the occasion, which will engage with the exhibition spaces, challenging some of the visitors' certainties. We’re very excited to announce our 5th collaboration with Fondazione Romaeuropa Festival Digitalive, curated by Federica Patti On October 13, we will present Waluigi’s Purgatory an interactive performance by dmstfctn with live music by Evita Manji ~ ~ ~ Set in a 3D theatre simulated in real-time, it tells the story of an AI which finds itself in a purgatory for cheating AIs.
