The Italian Respiratory Society / Società Italiana di Pneumologia is a no profit Scientific Society which operates in fields of Respiratory Medicine and associates Specialist and Professionals interested in respiratory diseases. Vision: to reduce the burden of respiratory diseases both on the community and on each individual through cost-effective prevention and treatments. Goals: to be the benchmark in respiratory medicine for local, regional and National Authorities as well as for patients, promoting - through the SIP/IRS Research Centre - basic and clinical research and data collection as well as professional education, promoting relationships and collaborations among Italian and International respiratory specialists, encouraging with a multidisciplinary approach interactions among health professionals interested or involved in respiratory medicine, promoting continuing medical education about respiratory medicine (on both National and local level) with annual educational programmes carried out according to the National CME rules and permanent professional development courses (Continuing Professional etc.) for both medical and non medical professionals, promoting focused scientific studies and research trials as well as collaborations with others scientific societies and associations, producing reccomendations and guidelines (even tailoring guidelines produced by other National and International societies to the Italian system and situation), collaborating critically with the Italian Ministry of Health . The IRS Research Centre promotes studies and research projects in all the medical specialties connected with respiratory specialty with a a multidisciplinary approach, promotes multidisciplinary awareness and education about the respiratory aspects of every other medical specialty, carries out scientific research and clinical trials. IRS is active in field of scientific publishing through Multidisciplinary Respiratory Medicine the Official IRS Journal.
