Space Renaissance is a new, global philosophy, having its basic ground on Earth and its natural development in extraterrestrial space. Our founding concepts are New Humanism and Astro Humanism. We look to the past Renaissance (1500) as an inspiration for our heritage and capacity to aim high. We accomplish great projects by means of good will and mutual cooperation. Space Renaissance is part of the Renaissance, the current stage of the Renaissance, begun in 1500. Among our scopes: to expand Civilization beyond the boundaries of our Mother Planet to support the development of Civilian Astronautics, by urgently developing reusable passenger-carrying launch vehicles to join together all of the space advocacy organizations of Planet Earth, in order to talk loudly to the large public opinion to give birth to a Foundation to build Space Renaissance Academy, a great school for baccalaureates, masters and doctorates to build the philosophy and the culture of the Space Age, completing the Copernican Revolution, to help the New Renaissance of Humanity in Space to bring the Space Renaissance philosophy and proposals to the attention of the public to promote investment, new financial resources and government sponsorship to support the new space economy, industry and research

    MINING THE SEA OR MINING THE SKY? SRI Newsetter July 2024 - by Adriano V. Autino ABSTRACT: The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is facing intense negotiations to finalize regulations for commercial deep-sea mining by July 2025. Several companies, such as The Metals Company, are eager to begin mining operations as early as 2025, even before the regulations are complete. The prospect of deep-sea mining has raised significant environmental concerns, with over 20 countries calling for a moratorium to allow for more scientific study. Critics argue that mining the deep seafloor could devastate fragile ecosystems already threatened by climate change, pollution, and overfishing. However, proponents of deep-sea mining contend that it is necessary to meet the growing global demand for minerals required for renewable energy technologies and the green transition. Land-based mining also faces ethical and environmental challenges, further complicating the issue. The electronic society demands more energy, Artificial Intelligence and large servers also require significant power. The 17 SDGs of the U.N. 2030 Agenda are achievable only if energy (7), jobs (8), and industrial innovation (9) will produce the necessary economic and social support, but these goals conflict with environmental and conservation SDGs. As we see now, the green energy transition strategy also conflicts with the environmental goals. This creates an irreconcilable contradiction between development and environmental goals. The high lifestyle promised by the electronic society may only be available to a few people. However, space settlement and exploration could make a high lifestyle available to all. Rare materials and energy sources can be found in space, and heat can be reused to warm habitats. We must look beyond limited horizons for a sustainable future. Civilian Space Development can balance the equations for sustainability and ensure a durable future for humanity. The Space 18th SDG Coalition is proposing to add an 18th SDG to the U.N. 2030 Agenda to raise awareness about the urgency of Civilian Space Development.
