Last week, the #G7 of #Data Supervisory Authorities was held in Rome. Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL) and PANETTA hosted a dinner to conclude the festivities. The discussion focused on the complexity profiles of #AI #governance, and it was a joy to see stakeholders, authorities and key players from the international community joining and discussing about present and future challenges of what is happening around us. But wait a minute: who said that inspirational dinners with key note speakers and discussions are boring? We have had lots of fun indeed also thanks good food featured by Chef Pasquale Rinaldo and good wine. A special thanks to all CIPL and Panetta teams and especially to Natascha Gerlach CIPP/E and superstar Bojana Bellamy as well as to Vincenzo Tiani, LL.M. #PanettaTechNews Rocco Panetta, Italy's Country Leader of IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals, will be joining the #IAPP Leadership Day in Portsmouth (US). This is an exclusive event where all IAPP leaders meet to discuss the challenges of the privacy community. Kate Colleary and Dan Or-Hof, co-founders of the Strand Alliance whose PANETTA is a founding member, will also be joining.

What a retreat, this IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals Leadership Retreat 2024! This is not the first time that I have been honored with this invitation, but this year the IAPP Leadership Retreat edition 2024 was truly superb. A number of panels and interactive discussions kept us busy for two whole days, between the lobster bake and a jazz concert. But above all we dialogued with truly leaders and great minds such as Lawrence Lessig, Daniel Susskind , Kate Jones , Kalinda Raina , Lara Liss , Nubiaa Shabaka , Philippe Dufresne , Travis LeBlanc , Nuala O'Connor , Julie Brill , Caitlin Fennessy , Tom Zick, PhD. , Jenn Louie , Maitreya Shah , Mehtab Khan , Janine McKelvey and many others. A great thanks to J. Trevor Hughes and all the amazing IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals staff. “Molto rumore per nulla”, “Much ado about nothing” titolava una celebre piece teatrale di William Shakespeare - ancor più celebre la riduzione cinematografica con regia di Kenneth Branagh del 1993, un film che potrei definire per me generazionale. Ebbene, molto rumore per nulla e’ il sottotitolo della c.d. vicenda “metadati” scaturita da un importante provvedimento dell’Autorità Garante per la protezione dei dati personali tanto mal interpretato, quanto non propriamente scritto con cristallina chiarezza. Il provvedimento ha suscitato un sollevamento di critiche sul web e sui giornali che ha indotto l’Autorita a fornire una interpretazione autentica del testo, anche a valle di una consultazione pubblica. Il risultato? E’ stato scritto meglio e con minore rischio di fraintendimenti quel che già c’era scritto e, sopratutto, quel che non avrebbe non potuto affermare un’Autorita da sempre prudente e misurata.
