#policy / The HEREWEAR vision of a sustainable EU textile sector based on ‘bio-based’, ‘local’ and ‘circular’, touches on the Textile Strategy but also many more EU policies. Consequently, it can benefit from policy measures in many domains. Based on the activities of HEREWEAR, in our policy brief, we phrased concrete recommendations along the following themes: ‘understand the market’, ‘foster a holistic approach to bio-based textiles’, ‘support local and social’, ‘implement a coherent and fair legislative framework’, ‘lead by example via public procurement’ and ‘raise awareness among all stakeholders’. The latest CORDIS Results Pack is on the future of textiles and it highlights how the EU is tackling this challenge, funding research and innovation to create a sustainable, climate-neutral and circular textile sector. It showcases 6 Horizon projects including HEREWEAR, my-fi, SCIRT Project, TRICK Project, New Cotton Project and Glaukos project.

To complete the TexRev project funded by the Erasmus Plus programme, CorEdu launches BespoCE magazine. This online magazine is dedicated to professional fashion teachers and trainers, with interviews, feedback on concrete tests of applied pedagogy and innovations serving the transformation of the textile & clothing sector towards greater circularity. Open Call ON WEAVING As you know in spring of 2024 Lottozero became the first organization in Italy to make the ultra-modern TC2 loom available to the public, this has inspired us to create the cultural program ON WEAVING. Now, thanks to the support of the Regione Toscana with Toscanaincontemporanea 2024, we are thrilled to announce an OPEN CALL for designers and artists, offering a member of our community the opportunity to work with the TC2 for free. What does this residency provide? 24h access and a personal desk at the Lottozero's shared, co-working space and laboratory in Prato 24h access to a TC2 digital jacquard loom (3W, 110 cm weaving width warped at 12 ends per cm, 1320 ends in total, 100% cotton in natural color) access to other weaving, spinning and knitting equipment in the lab, access to traditional and novel weaving materials mentorship, logistical and technical support from the Lottozero staff to insure the successful realization of the project Participation in company and museum visits The residency scheduling is flexible but should be in total 1 working week and should take place between October and November 2024 (please indicate your preference in the application) in Prato, Italy. The resident will receive 400 Euros as expense reimbursement and a materials budget of 200 Euros**. The artist will be responsible for locating housing and travel to and from Lottozero. ** materials budget does not go directly to artist, but is to be spent by the lab during the residency on supplies determined by the artist. While we can provide instructions for getting started on the TC2 and if needed a prior consultancy on the digital file preparation, the artist is ultimately responsible for the design and the execution of the final piece. Since we cannot provide full assistance, a basic knowledge of hand weaving is required. In the HEREWEAR project, where CEDECS-TCBL is a partner, partners Mitwill Textiles Europe and Vretena were initially approached to create prototypes and develop products from entirely new bio-based materials. TCBL Association is at #Avantex with 4 of our members! At the TCBL Podium (L271 - L281), you can visit an entire value chain from biobased fibers and fabrics, to corporate and womens wear, manufactured locally in inclusive workshops who are also dedicated to the upcycling of post-consumer garments. We had plenty of interesting conversations with visitors, who were particularly impressed with the Flexi Dress by Vretena, made in the context of the Herewear Project with an innovative fabric derived from straw. Beyond our stand, after a very positive opening ceremony, we were pleased to see  interesting displays on sustainable materials, and of sportswear prototypes (to celebrate the 2024 Olympic games). A first session of talks in the Agora on trends and on the opportunities and challenges of the DPP (led by Chaire BALI - Biarritz Active Lifestyle Industry) was also highly informative.
