Can advanced sorting contribute to plastic circularity in Europe? Find out in our new report with Eunomia Research & Consulting! 💡 In the face of increasing sustainability demands and upcoming EU regulations, this report examines the potential of object recognition technology to improve recycling efficiency and circularity. It offers a thoughtful analysis of how these innovations can address current challenges and their role in meeting future sustainability goals. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/duUX4pt9 The big picture: 🌍 The plastic packaging industry faces growing demands for sustainability, driven by public and governmental pressures, and upcoming EU regulations like the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR) expected in late 2024. 🌍 This report covers the EU, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK, highlighting the potential of object recognition to significantly impact circularity in certain plastic formats. Key insights: 🔍 For many plastic packaging types, optimizing existing sorting technologies is sufficient for improved circularity. 🔍 Where challenges exist, object recognition technology is likely the most cost-effective advanced sorting solution compared to marker technology. 🔍 The industry and policymakers need to consider if marker technologies provide enough additional benefits to justify their cost and complexity. Read the report and let us know what you think! https://lnkd.in/duUX4pt9 #Plastic #Recycling #CircularEconomy #AdvancedSorting #TOMRA

💭 What if economic growth didn’t mean more waste?  As millions rise into the middle class, economic growth boosts access to essentials like food, shelter, and healthcare. This progress, however, has traditionally come at the cost of increased resource consumption and waste.   Imagine a future where this isn't the case.  Here's how we can work towards decoupling economic growth from waste generation:  ☑️ Using advanced recycling technologies to make sure materials are efficiently reused and repurposed, reducing the need for landfills and incineration. ☑️ ️ Encouraging the use of recycled materials and designing products for longevity and recyclability to help create circular lifecycles. ☑️ ️ Finding new ways to transform waste into useful resources, which can help industries reduce costs and environmental impact. Economic expansion can coexist with environmental protection. As professionals across various sectors, we should consider how we can integrate these solutions into our workflows. Whether you're in manufacturing, retail, or another field, we can all contribute to a future where growth and circularity go hand-in-hand. 👐 #Decoupling #SustainableGrowth #CircularEconomy #IndustryInsights #RecyclingTechnology
