❝From a young age, I was acutely aware of the hardships faced by those around me. Growing up in #Sudan in a farming family, I witnessed firsthand the struggles of my community. This awareness ignited a passion in me to make a tangible difference, driving me towards a career in humanitarian work.❞ Abubakr Albukhary is a Programme Policy Officer for WFP📍#Somalia. Ahead of #WorldHumanitarianDay on 19 August, he shares with us what brought him on his journey to being a humanitarian. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ ❝My journey with the WFP began at a pivotal moment in my life. When conflict erupted in Sudan, I found myself at a crossroads. My family and I became refugees in Uganda. Despite the challenges of displacement, my determination to help others remained unwavering. WFP's reputation for addressing hunger and fostering resilience in some of the world's most challenging environments drew me in. Their mission resonated deeply with my own aspirations. ❝This job has been an incredible teacher. It has taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience in the face of adversity. Every day presents new challenges, and with each challenge, I have learned to think creatively and act swiftly. The complexities of working in a conflict-affected region have underscored the importance of collaboration and empathy. ❝The hardest part of my job is witnessing the immediate impact of food insecurity on vulnerable populations. It is heart-wrenching to see families struggling to put food on the table, children suffering from malnutrition, and communities grappling with the effects of climate change. These moments of despair can be overwhelming, but they also fuel my determination to work harder and push for sustainable solutions. ❝The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the tangible results of our efforts. There is nothing more fulfilling than witnessing a community become self-sufficient, thanks to the climate-smart practices we have implemented.
