🎉 Last week, our ConnectHeat partners gathered in Stuttgart to celebrate the successful completion of the project's first half and to strategise for the remaining period. 🏕 During our meeting, we had the privilege of visiting Breitenholz, a picturesque village of around 800 inhabitants, where we witnessed an inspiring example of sustainable #energy transition using the energy community concept. 🤓 Breitenholz, once reliant on polluting diesel for #heating, has embraced a pioneering #districtheating system powered by locally available wood #biomass and #solarthermal energy. 🤝 This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort among #citizens who formed a consortium to drive the initiative forward. 😍 By tapping into local resources, the village now enjoys 100% #renewableheating solutions, ensuring reliability, low maintenance, and price stability for consumers while fostering local economic development. 👏 Key highlights of Breitenholz's district heating system include providing heat to 150 families, avoiding 600 tons of CO2 emissions annually, and incorporating thermal storage to meet peak energy demands. 💚 Our visit underscored the potential for energy community action to drive sustainable heat transitions, offering a compelling model for achieving energy independence while combating #climatechange. #ConnectHeat #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #HeatCommunities Ambiente Italia S.r.l., North West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA), Euroheat & Power, APE FVG, Energy Agency of Plovdiv, Leiedal, Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, OesteSustentável - Agência Regional de Energia e Ambiente do Oeste - Regional Energy and Env.
