Chi siamo

D-Sat is a three-unit CubeSat we designed and built over a period of two years to perform an in-orbit validation of D-Orbit Decommissioning Device (D3), the core technology of our company. D-Sat is a new exciting way to do space. At the end of the mission, D-Sat will perform a direct and controlled decommissioning maneuver that will cause its re-entry over the ocean, where it will disintegrate away from populated areas. By doing so, D-Sat will be the first satellite in history to be decommissioned in a direct and controlled way at the end of its mission thanks to a dedicated device integrated onboard. With our work we hope to provide an affordable and practical solution to the increasing accumulation of debris in Earth orbit. D-Sat will be launched at the end of June 2017 in a 500 km sun-synchronous orbit, a region of space where the issue of space debris is particularly serious. It will perform three experiments: SatAlert, Debris Collision Alerting System (DeCas), and Atmosphere Analyzer. In tune with our philosophy, all three experiments have a social impact. SatAlert, designed in collaboration with the Center of New Industries and Technologies (CNIT) and the University of Florence, is an in-orbit validation of an emergency protocol designed to help civil defense agencies to broadcast instructions in areas affected by natural disasters when the ground telecommunication infrastructures have been damaged. DeCas, developed by Aviosonic, is a sort of small and lightweight “smart fragment” with the ability to determine its own position during re-entry. This device can help determining the debris footprint, providing real-time instruction to airplanes flying over that zone. Atmosphere Analyzer is an experiment that will sample the ionosphere in a region between 80 km and 150 km that is unreachable by satellites or stratospheric balloons. This is an innovative approach that we are planning to develop further in a dedicated mission in 2019.
