📊 Latest Inflation Figures for Jersey: Prices Are Still Rising, But More Slowly The latest figures reveal that the rate of price increases has slowed down. Over the 12 months to June, Jersey's Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose by 5%, a drop from 5.7% in March. 🏠 Key contributors to this slowdown: Housing costs saw the most notable reduction. Price increases for most groups were either similar to or lower than those in March. Here's a breakdown of the changes: 📈 Still Going Up: Tobacco (12.2%), Leisure Services (10.7%), Fuel & Light (8.8%), Housing (7.3%) 📉 Going Down: Household Goods (-0.3%) Impact on Vulnerable Islanders - The inflation rate has different implications for vulnerable groups: Pensioners: RPI Pensioners rose by 4.4%, meaning that older islanders, many on fixed incomes, continue to face significant cost increases. This highlights the need for targeted support to ensure they can afford essential goods and services. Low-Income Households: RPI Low Income increased by 4%. Those in the lowest fifth of household income are particularly hard-hit by inflation, emphasising the importance of financial assistance programs and policies aimed at reducing inequality and supporting basic living standards.
