Effective Philanthropy Based on Local Need
About us
The Jersey Community Foundation is a philanthropic charity established in 2020 to connect people who care with causes that matter, inspiring local giving for local needs. We work with donors who want to give something back to their local community and voluntary groups providing vital services for local people and disadvantaged individuals. JCF helps generous individuals, families, organisations, trusts and foundations establish their own charitable fund with the Foundation, to support the causes that mean the most to them in the Channel Island of Jersey. Community Foundations are one of the fastest growing philanthropic movements globally. They are established, trusted charities that support local communities focusing on the most pressing needs in an area and are committed to making a difference to people’s lives in the places they serve.

🙏 Thank you to the Department for the Economy for providing this multi-year grant from the Jersey Reclaim Fund (Dormant Bank Accounts) 👏 Securing this funding for the next 3 years will allow Jersey Community Foundation to offer multi-year grants to charitable organisations that apply to us for funding. Multi-year funding provides financial stability, reduces uncertainty and allows for better planning and resource allocation over an extended period. This stability can help organisations achieve their goals more efficiently and effectively. With future funding assured for 2-3 years or more, non-profits can spend less time fundraising and more time on the ground delivering impactful activities. This applies to commissioned services & government grants too. The short-term funding cycle forces charities into a cycle of grant applications and reporting, diverting precious time away from their core missions. It also limits their ability to plan long-term, think strategically, or tackle complex issues that require multi-year investments. Highlighted in the recent Value of the Third Sector survey, only 11% of third sector organisations reported having a clearly articulated long-term (10+ years) vision, which suggests that few have a long-term plan to address the root causes of problems they deal with as well as solving the problems themselves. If you need more persuading on the benefits of multi-year funding, have a look at this article from Funding for NGOs: https://lnkd.in/eAjAnEEh. 🙏 Thank you Deputy Lyndon Farnham, Chief Minister & Senator Ian Gorst 🙏 Government of Jersey Ministry of External Relations Jersey Jersey Community Foundation #communityfoundations #jerseyci

We’re excited to share our groundbreaking 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘆. Charities, non-profits and volunteers play a vital role in our island community, contributing an impressive £𝟮𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘆’𝘀 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 - almost matching the impact of Jersey’s legal sector. And this only scratches the surface. This figure doesn’t capture every organisation in the third sector or the sector’s invaluable contributions to wellbeing, cultural enrichment and environmental care, which means the true value is far greater. To keep Jersey’s third sector thriving, we need support from everyone – the public, businesses and the government alike. These organisations are a vital part of our island community, strengthening Jersey and helping it be more resilient. 🔗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/eXcxbDkV This report was conducted by PwC Channel Islands and commissioned by Jersey Community Foundation, with support from Jersey Overseas Aid and Jersey Community Partnership. 🌟Thank you to everyone who joined us today for the launch of 'The value of the third sector' report.🌟 Here are 4 early insights we can reveal from the report: 1️⃣ The third sector contributes an enormous £230 million in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the Island's economy – this is almost as large as the Island’s legal sector. 2️⃣ The Island’s business sector makes a financial contribution from grants and donations, although sponsorships are surprisingly low at only 2% of third sector earned income. 3️⃣ Jersey’s low-level, repeat giving (monthly donations from the public of under £5,000) account for proportionately less income to the sector than in the UK. This could be due to barriers in accesses to charitable payment technology. 4️⃣ Impact reporting and storytelling is integral to garnering more frequent and higher level donations. We are grateful to our speakers, the Lieutenant Governor - His Excellency Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd CBE, Daniel Chan MBE from PwC UK and James Linder from PwC Channel Islands. Their insightful contributions and discussions about the vital role of our third sector highlighted the significant impact this sector has on Jersey’s social wellbeing. Thank you also to our panel members – Lisa McClure, Partner at PwC Channel Islands; Bethany Gallichan, Founder of Bethspoke; Daniel Chan, Partner at PwC UK; James Linder, Lead Economist at PwC Channel Islands; and our CEO, Anna Terry – for sharing their expertise and engaging perspectives today. Stay tuned for the full report which will be publicly available on Friday 25 October. #JerseyCI #CommunityFoundation
