Crime (Public Order) (Jersey) Law 2024 Now in Effect! As of 18 October 2024, Jersey has welcomed a new law – Crime (Public Order) (Jersey) Law 2024 replacing the previous Crime (Disorderly Conduct and Harassment) (Jersey) Law 2008. This law now covers a number of offences, namely: - Rioting - Affray - Threats to kill, rape, or cause serious injury - Threatening, abusive, or disorderly conduct - Harassment - Prohibition on offensive weapons in public places or schools - Restraining orders Key changes to note: - Revokes previous laws on tumultuous gatherings and disorderly conduct - Abolishes the customary law offence of affray - Provides Centeniers with the ability to impose summary fines for various offences, including: - Threatening, abusive or disorderly conduct - Intoxication at aerodromes - Drunk and disorderly behaviour - Possession of certain controlled drugs

Meet the Team: Jay Jay is our Social Media Marketing Associate. Jay joined the team in July 2024 and has a background of graphic design, online marketing, copy writing, and social media management. Jay’s previous role at a local beer and gin festival included the creation, design, and management of socials, highlighting his ability to handle diverse tasks while staying current with trends and modern design.

This week, James Kelsh, our Chief Information Security Officer from Resolution IT came in for an informative session on data protection and cyber-attack prevention. James shared his extensive expertise in cybersecurity, guiding us through best practices for safeguarding sensitive information and recognising potential threats. His insights were really interesting and will help us stay ahead of evolving cyber risks. On Sunday, we participated in the 'Run for the Trees' charity event at the scenic Val de la Mar reservoir, completing a rewarding 3km run (12km for Matt) and helping to raise £3,500 for the charity. This initiative supports environmental sustainability, contributing to the reforestation efforts that are crucial for preserving natural ecosystems. Our team was proud to represent the firm in this race for a great cause. It was an excellent opportunity to bring the team together in the fresh air for a bit of light (!) exercise. We look forward to next year’s event!

Le Gallais & Luce proudly raised £1,205 at our Charity Golf Day, with all proceeds going to Citizens Advice Jersey! This will fund the CAB 2025 Parish Outreach Island Tour. This will be, to visit each of the 12 parishes and have a ‘popup’ morning on the first Saturday of each month, for assisting clients who may no be able to come into CAB's offices in town, and to make them more accessible to the island community.
