  • Day 3 of the 46th Global Privacy Assembly wrapped up with incredibly valuable sessions for attendees. Dan Caprio, Co-Founder and Chairman, The Providence Group led a panel on "Trust and Safety for Automobile Innovation" with Maarten Botterman, Director, GNKS Consult BV, Jonathan A.K. Cave, Academic Economist and Associate at GNKS and Andreea Lisievici Nevin, Privacy Digital and AI Consultant, Trainer & Mentor Attendees then watched an innovative podium debate where Jules Polonetsky Chief Executive Officer, Future of Privacy Forum mediated on the topic "Data Minimisation: A true guidance point, or a relic?" between Sheila Colclasure, Global Chief Data Integrity and Public Policy Officer and Philippe Dufresne, Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Natascha Gerlach CIPP/E, Director for Privacy & Data Policy at the Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL) then moderated a panel with Massimo Marelli, Head of Data Protection Office, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mark Coxshall, Chief Executive Officer, EYECAN and Yukiko Lorenzo, Senior Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, Privacy and Data Protection at Mastercard on Data sharing between Government and Third Sector. Attendees then heard a discussion on "The Benefits & Drawbacks of RegTech - Are they just privacy washing?" with Dr. Gabriela Zanfir-Fortuna, Vice-President for Global Privacy, Future of Privacy Forum, Steve Tan Keng Joo, Partner, Rajah & Tann Singapore, Jane Horvath, Partner, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Justin S. Antonipillai, Founder and CEO - Stewardshipped.ai & Senior Advisor - Gretel. Martine Wright MBE, 7/7 survivor, Paralympic athlete, Inspirational and Motivational Speaker was then interviewed by Jess Dunsdon. As a survivor of the most horrific terrorist atrocity to hit London in the post-war era, Martine talked about how she was thrust into the media spotlight, press intrusion and how she harnessed the power of the media to tell her story to the world on her terms.   • Attendees at the 2nd morning session of the 46th Global Privacy Assembly Conference heard from an array of panels, and keynote speakers. We started the day with a keynote from Kate Wright, CEO of Freeda who discussed "Reducing Inequalities in Privacy Rights: Exploring the different privacy dimensions of diversity" on the back of the Jersey VAWG report. Then we heard from a panel moderated by Patricia Kosseim, Commissioner, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) on "Education from the ground up: The societal impact of privacy education." Patricia was joined by Leanda Barrington-Leach, Executive Director, 5Rights Foundation, Matthew Johnson, Director of Education, MediaSmarts, Bertrand du Marais, Commissioner, Commission National Informatique & Libertes (CNIL), Joyce Lai, Assistant Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Corporate Communications and Compliance), PCPD and Baroness Beeban Kidron OBE, Member of the House of Lords, Founder & Chair 5Rights Foundation Alexander McD White, Privacy Commissioner (Bermuda) and GPA ExCo Member then led a panel on “Accessible Privacy: Protecting the disabled, vulnerable and socially marginalised in a digitised world" with John Edwards, UK Information Commissioner, Carly Kind, Privacy Commissioner, Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, Beatriz de Anchorena, AAIP Argentina Director and Philippe Dufresne, Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We finished the morning with a panel about "Creating trust through Data Trusts" led by Rachel Harker, Technology Development Consultant, Digital Jersey who was joined by Dame Wendy Hall, Regius Professor of Computer Science, University of Southampton and Jack Hardinges, Independent Consultant as in 2023, Jersey was the first jurisdiction to establish a legally constituted data trust.   • The afternoon session at the 46th Global Privacy Assembly finished off a fantastic first day of talks, keynotes and debates. We started with a panel on "The Advantages and Challenges of Data Transfer Tools“ moderated by Joe Jones, Director of Research & Insights, theIAPP. He was joined by Dr. Clarisse Girot, Acting Head, Division on Data Flows, Governance and Privacy, OECD, Estelle Massé, Policy Officer, International Affairs and Data Flows, Directorate-General for Justice, European Commission, Yuji ASAI Commissioner, Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) Japan and Haksoo Ko, Chairperson of PIPC. Followed by a panel on "International Transfers in the context of Financial Services - What is the direction of travel?" led by Vivienne Artz OBE FCSI (Hon) CMgr CCMI AIGP Senior Data Strategy & Privacy Policy Advisor to Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL) , who was joined by Jill Britton, Director General, Jersey Financial Services Commission, Lori Baker, Director of Data Protection, DIFC Authority, and Katherine Race Brin, Chief Data Privacy Officer, The World Bank. Our attendees were then treated to a key note on "The Role of Data Privacy in Humanitarian Crises" by Massimo Marelli Head of Data Protection Office, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) And our afternoon session finished with a panel exploring "How do Indigenous Communities Develop their own Data Protection Frameworks?” moderated by Malcolm Crompton AM, Founder and Partner, IIS Partners, with Immaculate Kassait, MBS, Data Commissioner, Kenya / 1st Vicechair, Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA), Shana Morgan, Global Head of Privacy & AI Legal Compliance, L3Harris Technologies and Josefina Román Vergara, Commissioner, Instituto Nacional de Transparencia A fantastic day, with more to come tomorrow! #GPAJSY24 #jerseyci #dataprotection #dataprivacy #gpa

  • As the day continues at the 46th Global Privacy Assembly Conference our attendees joined a series of interactive breakout sessions. Marie-Laure Denis, President of the CNIL - Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés spoke on "How Technology Will Impact the Regulator: What does our future as digital regulators look like?" Davida Blackmore, Principal (AdvocateDVB) and Chairman of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Jersey) led a panel on "Data Protection and Mental Health - How do we protect society's most vulnerable?" with Alvaro Bedoya, Commissioner, Federal Trade Commission, Wojciech Wiewiorowski, European Data Protection Supervisor and Dan Holloway Founder, Rogue Interrobang. Bojana Bellamy, President, CIP led a panel on "Defining Privacy Harms in a Modern World“ with Andy Phippen, Professor of IT Ethics and Digital Rights, Emily Keaney, Deputy Commissioner, Regulatory Policy, UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Anu Talus, Chair, European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and Jade Nester, Director, Data Public Policy, Europe at TikTok. Our morning session finished with a panel discussion led by J. Trevor Hughes, President and CEO of the IAPP on "Regulatory Cousins - How do regulators tackle the challenge of overlapping policy domains?" He was joined by Professor Christopher Hodges OBE, Chair, Regulatory Horizons Council; Emeritus Professor of Justice Systems, Oxford University, Noriswadi Ismail, Senior Director - Data Privacy, Policy & Regulation, GSMA and Emma Redmond, Associate General Counsel, Head of Privacy and Data Protection and Ireland Site Lead for OpenAI.   • The morning session of the 46th Global Privacy Assembly Conference delivered huge value to our attendees. The day started with addresses from Paul Vane, Information Commissioner, Josefina Román Vergara the Chair of Global Privacy Assembly, and Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, Deputy Kirsten Morel. Nikolas Badminton FRSA - Chief Futurist kicked off our keynotes with his talk tilted "The future of Privacy Regulation: How will Data Protection Authorities need to adapt over the next 30 years?" Followed by a fascinating fireside chat about the impact of AI with Elizabeth Denham CBE, Chair-Designate, Jersey Data Protection Authority, Teki Akuetteh, Senior Partner, Nsiah Akuetteh & Co.; Founder & Executive Director Africa Digital Rights’ Hub LBG, Boniface de Champris, Senior Policy Manager, Computer & Communications Industry Association and Miriam Wimmer, Director of the National Data Protection Authority of Brazil (ANPD) Our attendees then heard a very engaging talk from Douglas Kruger, Bestselling Author and Hall of Fame Speaker for his keynote "Who Cares About One Person? How Elevating the Individual Elevates all Humanity.’" We were then joined by a group of students from Hautlieu School, a local secondary school for a panel on "What the Next Generation Think - Defining Privacy Harms: Perspectives on cyber bullying, facial recognition and what privacy means for future generations” moderated by Paul Breitbarth of the Jersey Data Protection Authority.
