"One in three LGBTQ+ have experienced homeless displacement in their lifetime compared to one in five in 2019. Of the respondents who indicated that they experienced homelessness or displacement, the most common reason for their experience was being forced by family members because of their LGBTQ+ identity." We need more tolerance and education for LGBTQ+ needs, starting at HOME. Too many LGBTQ+ Jamaicans have been displaced at some point in their life, simply for being who they are! Bullying is prevalent in the education system, and sometimes LGBTQ+ people experience it the most. “One in three LGBTQ+ people experience bullying in their lifetime, with over 50% of them indicating that this occurred while they were in high school. Participants reporting bullying also increased from 42% to 47% and instances or attempts at corrective rape increased from 4% to 12% since the 2019 study. School remains a site of violence with high levels of bullying and low levels of awareness among parents, teachers and guidance counsellors” What systems can be constructed in the school environment that can combat this so NO-ONE has to struggle to get an education? #IDAHOT #IDAHOT2024 #EqualityForAll #EFAF25

From the recently concluded 2024 Community Needs Assessment Survey, with a sample size of 340 LGBTQ+ Jamaicans, this one of the major findings:👇👇👇 One in three LGBTQ+ people feel unsafe living in Jamaica with over 83% of them experience some form of violence in their lifetime. This represents a 10.6% increase in respondents indicating experiences of lifetime violence experiencing since the 2019 study. It is reported that the most common form of assault experienced by LGBTQ+ Jamaicans is verbal threats. Queer Jamaicans continue to be fearful of physical assaults and other forms violence in their day to day lives. The question begs - “How do we continue to safeguard the protection of our LGBTQ+ community?” The full survey report is available in the resources section of our website - equalityjamaica.org #IDAHOT #IDAHOTWeek2024 #EqualityForAll #EFAF25

To accept diversity and inclusion doesn't mean that you have to agree with something or someone. It just means that even when we disagree, we can still respect each other. Through this looking glass, we see strength lying in differences and not in similarities. We all can co-exist happily in Jamaica. That "All" and this "Jamaica" means "including LGBTQ+ people". #throughthelookingglass #equalityforall #iflag

The law should never alienate any group of people, but protect us ALL from harm or mistreatment. It's should help us feel safe. This includes LGBTQ+ people. In this looking glass, the law helps queer people to feel safe. #throughthelookingglass #equalityforall #iflag

We all deserve to live a quality life! Free from exclusion and discrimination. My gender and/or sexual identity is just a percentage of me. The 'Whole' of me is beautiful, talented, smart, educated and qualified. In this looking glass, I am all this and more, right here on Jamaica land we love. #throughthelookingglass #equalityforall #flag

#ThroughTheLookingGlass - Fair and just treatment is NOT an agenda, it is basic human rights. It is not a comparison between the 45% of LGBTQ+ Jamaicans who do not feel safe at their place of work, and the 55% who do. The meat of the matter is, it should be 100% of LGBTQ+ people who feel safe, and free from judgement and discrimination. "Because my qualifications and work ethic matter more than my sexual or gender identity!" #throughthelookingglass #equalityforall #jflag
