About us

The Taino Heritage Camp, also known as Coki Yukayeke, sits on 7 acres of riverside property, In 2014 we officially began our journey creating educational, interactive workshops and experiences for schools, families and visitors. Our continuous research and educational programmes have fruited a permanent schools’ workshop where students and teachers visit the park for field trips to support their Indigenous social studies curriculum. The workshops are fully immersive and interactive, and participants get the chance to use bows and arrows, chant songs, dance, play Taino games and visit real spaces in a real yukayeke, including playing ball games on a batey, participating in interactive conversations in a sacred caney, an introduction to hunting techniques at a 12th-century fishing weir and eating traditional foods prepared in a barbacot. Our key stakeholders include the schools we serve across the island and the region; Taino Institutions and schools across the Caribbean and America; The Institute of Jamaica; The Forestry Department; Social Development Council; Rural Agricultural Development Agency and back in 2016 we were endorsed by the Ministry of Education.
