Exciting News! We are thrilled to announce the launch of the first tropical broiler house for growing chickens in the Americas! On October 25, 2024, in collaboration with Devenish Nutrition, a global leader in animal nutrition from Northern Ireland, we inaugurated the first R&D facility in the Western Hemisphere specifically designed to optimize broiler chickens grown in tropical climates. In Jamaica and across the equatorial region, high temperatures and humidity present significant challenges for poultry production. Historically, producers have relied on research from other climates, leaving a gap in knowledge tailored to our unique conditions. To address this, we partnered with Devenish to create a state-of-the-art facility at our very own Hill Run Farms in St. Catherine. It is dedicated to scientifically testing variables such as feed formulations, housing conditions, and chicken breeds to identify the optimal combinations for our region. During the opening event, our CEO Matthew Lyn emphasized the project's potential impact on productivity, efficiency and competitiveness. Meanwhile, Tony McEntee, CEO of Devenish, highlighted the positive implication of such research on Jamaica's food security and self-sufficiency, particularly amid recent market volatility. Special guest Minister of Agriculture Floyd Green also expressed strong support, noting the project's potential to elevate poultry performance and benefit farmers. This project demonstrates Devenish's confidence in CB Group and Jamaica, underscored by a significant investment of over US $1 million.

We are proud to be the CARICOM: Caribbean Community Farmer of the Year 2024! While agriculture typically isn’t perceived as 'cool’ or attractive, and farming is far from easy, we believe that feeding our nation is the most important career in the world. To our 1,300-strong CBG team members and integrated growers, you made this possible. Thank you for choosing CB Group, thank you for choosing agriculture. The award is truly a testament to the strength of the Jamaican poultry industry. We take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders – our loyal customers, financial institutions, water and energy providers, and all partners who play a part in making the poultry industry what it is today. To the millions of Jamaicans who welcome us into their homes and make us a part of your daily lives, thank you.

We are thrilled to share that CB Group received the CARICOM Secretary General’s Farmer of the Year Award for 2024 on October 7th during the Opening Ceremony of the 18th Caribbean Week of Agriculture in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The award recognises our Group’s impact on national and regional food security, environmental management and climate change practices, level of production and diversification, investment in innovation, technology and digitization, and involvement within the local and regional sector. Winning the CARICOM Farmer of the Year award is not only a significant accomplishment for us at CB Group, but for Jamaica as a whole. We are both proud and humbled to have been selected from among the nominees representing Jamaica and other CARICOM Member States. The acknowledgment reflects our Group’s commitment to building a sustainable agricultural industry over the past four decades. We dedicate this award to all the teams at CB Group and our integrated contract growers. Thank you!

On May 7, 2024, we celebrated a new milestone on our journey. CB Group is now the largest corporate producer of renewable energy in Jamaica and one of the largest in the Caribbean. At Peninsula Farms, Linstead, home to some of our livestock and hatchery operations, we commissioned our latest solar project in collaboration with Soleco Energy. Surrounded by CBG family and our incredible partners, we unveiled four new solar PV power plants across Kingston, Clarendon, and St. Catherine. Their collective capacity of 2.1 MW marks the largest by an industrial company in Jamaica. While our foray into renewables dates back over a decade, the completion of this project takes our network’s total solar production to 3.8 MW. We are honoured to take yet another leap toward more sustainable food production, and a cleaner, greener Jamaica for generations to come.  If you know about our Group, you know that we’ve long been a big believer in sustainability; the concept drives a lot of the decisions and investments we’ve made and will continue to. We equally consider the impact on people, planet, and profit, and as our CEO, Matthew Lyn, shared at the event, if the decision is “good for one and not the other, generally it’s not going to happen.” We hope that this project inspires others. With its completion, CB Group will displace more than 285 tonnes of carbon from our operations every year, or about 5,000 tonnes over the next 20 years in our long-term approach to sustainable agriculture. It was our pleasure to have both The Honourable Daryl Vaz, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology and The Honourable Floyd Green, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining join us. The occasion was not only a milestone for us at CB Group, but one for both sectors. With the Caribbean being one of the most vulnerable regions in the world, more cross-sector collaboration is a necessity to mitigate the challenges of climate change. We believe in agriculture and we believe in Jamaica, and that's why we continue to invest here. Oh, and fun fact! The solar plant at Peninsula Farms is the first in Jamaica to incorporate solar grazing - a concept of vegetation control through grazing livestock, without the need for harmful chemicals!
