    I helped someone who did not match the requirements for a role get the job. This is a result of taking the time to understand the candidate on more of a personal level, something that rarely happens in the CV-factory style of recruitment. Also, the hiring manager was open-minded and willing to meet people that I suggested. Hiring people who don't necessarily hit all the requirements in their career history will become increasingly more important in Japan due to limited talent in the market. The key here is gaining the trust of your clients to introduce people who are capable and only need the chance to showcase themselves in an interview - just a foot in the door. This also requires a lot of preparation when working with the candidate on interview preparation. We would meet and go over interview questions and areas of discussion before every interview. Through this preparation, the candidate learned more about herself and her skills, which she can apply in new ways. It was an incredibly rewarding experience since it opened the door for the candidate to make a career switch to a completely new field in which she was interested. It's important to be open to taking a leap of faith in people. Don't just scan CVs and search for key terms. Each CV is a person, with a unique personality and value. Be open to that and take the time to consider it in the hiring process. I promise you won't regret it.
