ORIX Group and Sumitomo Heavy Industries Marine & Engineering Co., Ltd. have launched a feasibility study to explore the use of wind power for one of ORIX’s bulk carriers. A wing-shaped soft sail, manufactured by NORTH SAILS JAPAN has been set on the derrick post of the bulk carrier, and is being used to harness wind power to assist the ship’s propulsion. This initiative aims to reduce heavy fuel oil consumption and lower CO2 emissions. As the International Maritime Organization (IMO) emphasizes the goal of achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, this study represents a step toward more sustainable maritime transport. ORIX Group will be operating the takeoff and landing site (Vertiport) for Advanced Air Mobility (#AAM) as a part of the upcoming EXPO 2025 in Osaka. ORIX will be responsible for overall vertiport operations to enable advanced air mobility flights to and from the EXPO site. Named “EXPO Vertiport,” this facility will be situated in the Mobility Experience area of the Expo venue. ORIX will manage the Vertiport and support the future of advanced air mobility. ORIX Environmental Resources Management Corporation will commence construction of a new #recycling facility to replace the existing Yorii Plant in Saitama, #Japan. It will use the Direct Melting System (“DMS”), a sophisticated recycling unit that gasifies and melts general waste at a high temperature of approximately 1,800°C to detoxify it and enable recycling while at the same time allowing the recovery of heat #energy. The recovered heat energy will be used for high-efficiency power generation totaling approximately 86,940 MWh annually. This #electricity will be consumed within the premises, with excess being sold to the grid. In case of a natural disaster, it will be able to continue to operate as an energy-independent facility. ORIX Group is excited to announce that its Group company, Elawan Energy will supply renewable energy to Google under a corporate #PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) for the #energy generated by a 37.0 MW #solar project in Hill County, Texas, USA. As part of ORIX Group’s goal to achieve #carbonneutrality by 2050, ORIX and Elawan are committed to expanding their #renewableenergy business globally, and this project is a key component of their #strategy to strengthen their footprint in North America, where they currently manage an operational portfolio of over 300 MW.
