Intel has presented the industry's first fully integrated optical compute interconnect (OCI) chiplet designed to significantly boost high-bandwidth data interconnect performance. Essential for growing AI demands, the milestone represents a step forward in silicon photonics, combining integrated circuits with lasers to enhance data transfer rates and support AI infrastructure scaling. Don’t worry — these high-performance computers thrive in liquid 💧 Sandia engineers are submerging computer servers in a liquid coolant, eliminating the need for power-hungry cooling systems. This could cut energy consumption by 70% and reshape data center architecture. “It’s pretty cool — and a little unusual — to walk into a computing lab and see electrical hardware submerged in fluid,” Sandia engineer David Damm said.
