thedropofahat I'm not much of a jazz-head, but Kamasi takes me places I didn't know existed. Wild stuff! Wild and beautiful stuff. Favorite track: Prologue.

Ron Hogan So psyched for another epic album from Washington. Can you ever go wrong leading off with the 96th Psalm, and in the language of the ancient Ethiopian Christians no less? I don’t believe you can.

impressivelad Kamasi Washington does not disappoint. The tracks here on average have a more accessible feel than past works but there's no shortage of blazing sax solos, monumental rhythms or cinematic melodies. But this is nicely balanced by smoother cuts like the slinky oozy groove of "Get Lit" or the earnest slow-burn of "Together". A dazzlingly luxurious album from start to finish. Unbelievable talent.

Turning his attention to dance for his latest album, Fearless Movement out this May on Young, Kamasi Washington resumes his ongoing study of music as a means of connection. His 2015 album The Epic, as well as 2018’s Heaven and Earth were received by critics and audiences as a reimagination of modern jazz showcasing Washington’s larger-than-lift compositions full of celestial grandeur and his distinct blend of jazz, Latin, funk, classical, hip-hop and soul. Fearless Movement, however, offers something different: terrestrial rhythms and collaborations from rappers, musical icons and even Washington’s own daughter. Features include: Thundercat, Taj Austin, Ras Austin, Patrice Quinn, DJ Battlecat, Brandon Coleman, D-Smoke, George Clinton, Bj the Chicago Kid, and Andre 3000.

Unlike any other. Its feel is both reflective and down to earth, and the compositions are easily differentiated despite their relative shortness.
