📢 Thank You for Making the Pledge Annual Virtual Gathering 2024 a Success!🌍✨ We’re incredibly grateful to all the participants who joined us on November 5th 2024 across both sessions — Asia/Pacific and Africa, Europe, Americas. Your presence, input, and contributions made this gathering a truly impactful experience. Mohammed Ali led us in an inspirational session, connecting mind body and spirit creating a space where we could lean into our values as the Pledge community. Another highlight was the session “Under the PALM,” where we explored key accountability metrics and their impacts. This was followed by insightful breakout sessions led by remarkable speakers, who brought invaluable perspectives on diverse and timely topics. We are honored to have had such distinguished voices guiding these conversations. Special thanks to Mohammed Ali for sharing his #worksheet and takeaway — it’s attached here. If you wish to share your #worksheets and takeaways as well, feel free to do so and bring the conversation to the digital space. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #PledgeforChange #PledgeAnnualVirtualGathering2024 while at it! In the spirit of community and love, we’ve also put together the many beautiful words for “love” shared in your native languages. Let’s carry this unity forward as we work toward our common goals! #PledgeforChange #PledgeAnnualVirtualGathering2024 #EquitablePartnerships #AuthenticStorytelling #DecoloniseAid MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates)CordaidFHI 360Mercy Corps Plan InternationalSave the Children InternationalSOS Children's Villages InternationalSOS-Kinderdorf e.V.International Rescue CommitteeWomen for Women InternationalAbs Development organization for woman and childAMPLIFY GIRLS @assylum access Community Based Organisations (CBOs) Coalition MalawiCDA Collaborative Learning ProjectsCentre for Humanitarian LeadershipCenter for Values in International DevelopmentCHIDDO South SudanCooperation CanadaFearless ProjectFirelightHope Revival Organization (HRO)Health Poverty ActionHumanitarian Aid InternationalHumentumInterActionINTRACLandesaLepraTalk To LoopNEAR (Network for Empowered Aid Response)ODI GlobalPartnersGlobalThe King's Trust InternationalpurposefulSeeChange InitiativeSomali Advocacy and Relief Organization (SARO)Kate Moger

🌍 All Hands on Deck: Unlocking and Redirecting Funds for Transformative Impact 🌍 Last week, Adeso participated in the African Philanthropy Forum in Marrakech, where executive director Degan Ali, joined a dynamic panel of impact leaders: Almaz Negash, Priscilla Boiardi, Gibril Faal, Eme Essien Lore to discuss unlocking funding from African sources to drive transformative change across the continent. 🌴 A New Agenda for African Philanthropy 🌴 The African Philanthropy Forum highlighted the dawn of a new era in philanthropy—one that is agile, collaborative, and laser-focused on catalyzing funding to accelerate Africa’s transformation. This conference provided a vital platform for fostering meaningful dialogue aimed at enhancing both South-South and North-South collaborations. Together, we explored innovative solutions to redirect funding flows and ensure that resources are allocated where they can make the most significant impact. 💡 "It's about developing the infrastructure to address the issues around risk and capacity so that money is distributed effectively to proximate groups working on environmental and humanitarian issues on the ground." - Degan Ali at APF By leveraging local and global partnerships, we are collectively shaping a brighter, more prosperous future where people thrive through their own resourcefulness. ✨ Join Us in the Movement: As we are redefining the landscape of philanthropy in Africa through collaboration and strengthening the ecosystem of African-led sustainable development, we invite you to engage with us on this journey toward unlocking the full potential of our continent. ▶️ Sign up to our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eQZV9u_B 💡 "Part of the narrative change and decolonizing ourselves is really about the recognition of what a philanthropist is and recognising that the biggest philanthropists are the people in the communities." - Degan Ali at APF African Philanthropy Forum African Diaspora Network OECD - OCDE GK Partners #DecolonisingAid #DecolonizingAid #ShiftThePower

🌍 How Philanthropy Can Lead the Way to Locally Led Development: A Global South Roadmap 🌍 At this year’s UN General Assembly, Adeso and an incredible group of partners brought together thought leaders and philanthropists Degan Ali, Toyin Saraki, Maria Amalia Souza, Tariq Cheema, Benjamin Bellegy, Anita Kattakuzhy and Fanta K. Toure to discuss the pivotal role of philanthropy in locally-led development. We finally have the full video, and we hope that you give it a look. The key themes explored were: 🔹 Defining Locally Led Development: Global Majority leaders shared their insights on what locally-led development means and the barriers to achieving it. 🔹 Philanthropy’s Potential: Exploring how philanthropy from both the Global South and North can support locally-led development, and its comparative advantages over government and private sector investments. Philanthropy is society’s “risk capital,” and it should work to move nimbly and apply trust-based principles when supporting locally led organizations. 🔹 Putting the Global South in the Driver’s Seat: The only way to make real change is to flip the script by putting Global South leaders and their lived experience/expertise at the helm of any change efforts. 🔹 Funding Challenges: Identifying what prevents reaching funding targets for locally-led organizations and how philanthropy can bridge this gap. For years, Adeso has focused on shifting resources and decision-making to local leaders. This commitment led to the creation of the NEAR network—a coalition of Global South-based organizations working to get funding directly into local hands and tackle global issues collaboratively. Curious about NEAR? Learn more here 👉 NEAR (Network for Empowered Aid Response) At UNGA, NEAR’s team shared inspiring success stories about building local networks driving real change in decolonization, humanitarianism, and systems transformation. Stay tuned for snippets from these conversations in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, if you’re ready to see how philanthropic capital can fuel local solutions and transform development, check out the powerful speeches and panels from September 26 at the UNGA conference. 🎥 Watch the dialogue here: https://lnkd.in/dJbq7C-J Let’s amplify local voices and bring real impact to the communities that need it most! Check out the amazing work our partners are doing: African Philanthropy Forum, WINGS. Thank you Patrick Watt for this blog: As INGOs, we must ask ourselves: ‘Why us? Why not local?' in guiding how we allocate resources and make decisions. Our future value addition should lie in us playing a convening, connecting and catalytic role, linking the local to the global and supporting wider movements for change. #PledgeForChange #EquitablePartnerships Christian Aid Adeso
