Agricarbon, an initiative by Anthesis Group, has become Africa’s first regenerative farming programme to receive Verra under the VM0042 Agricultural Land Management methodology. This milestone marks a significant step in carbon farming, positioning Africa as a key player in global carbon markets. Since its launch in 2021, AgriCarbon has worked with 29 farmers across 17,582 hectares in South Africa, implementing regenerative farming practices like cover cropping, reduced tillage, and diversified crop rotations. The Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria has received approval to establish a Renewable Asset Management Company to ensure long-term sustainability of its clean energy projects. Morocco has approved a $32.5 billion investment in green hydrogen, accelerating the production of green ammonia, steel, and fuel to cut industrial emissions and boost exports to Europe. Sierra Leone is set to take a significant step towards sustainable energy and waste management with a pioneering 30MW waste-to-energy project in Freetown. Climate Fund Managers (CFM) and Infinitum Energy Group have secured $3.1 million in development funding from CFM’s EU-backed Climate Investor Two Fund to co-develop this transformative initiative.
