We believe that collaboration and sharing knowledge are crucial elements for advancing sustainability. It was therefore our privilege to showcase the Junction Mall Solar Power Project in #Nairobi to members of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) International. ☀️ Built on the roof of one of Nairobi’s largest shopping centres, this BECS-developed solar power project works alongside existing power sources to reduce greenhouse emissions and cut electricity costs. Thank you to all those who joined us on this site visit. For more details on our work, please visit www.be-cs.co. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Decarbonisation #BECS
This week, members in Kenya visited the Junction Mall Solar Power Project, developed by Berkeley Energy Corporate Solutions (BECS) in partnership with Junction Mall. The 932 kWp grid-tied solar power project utilises 9,500 m2 on the roof of one of Nairobi’s largest shopping centres and operates in parallel with other existing sources of power on site. The team of civil, structural, and electrical engineers inspected key components of the project, including mono-crystalline solar PV modules, main distribution boards and inverters, and discussed how the innovative project produces cheaper electricity for the off-taker. Two experienced electrical engineers, Victor Senkomo and Maina Kevin Kimani from the BECS team explained: ☀️The key design, construction and operation parameters of the project ☀️The load vs solar production curve ☀️The general principles of Power Purchase Agreements ☀️The remotely operated online power management system ☀️Key features of the health and safety installations on site. Following the visit, members of Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), The Institution of Structural Engineers and The Institution of Engineers of Kenya met for dinner to share lessons and to discuss some of the key infrastructure projects they are working on in the region, their vision for the ICE in Kenya, and the location of the next site visit. Are you an engineer in Kenya with a project presentation or visit to share with ICE members? Those interested in getting involved with ICE activities in Kenya should contact Guillaume Patricot for more information. Thank you to Alessandro Davitti and his colleagues for arranging the visit.
