Pili Salehe, a mother of three in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, used to spend her days cooking over a smokey traditional stove. It was uncomfortable and expensive – the smoke hurt her lungs, and every month the cooking fuel cost her more than $13.  But since she bought BURN's cellular-enabled IoT ECOA Induction Cooker (iC), Pili has been saving 50% on cooking fuel – now with only ~$7 she can buy enough electricity to cook for her children and extended family for a whole month. “Since I bought my ECOA my expenses have really gone down, and I am no longer struggling with chest pains from the smoky stove,” she explains. “I’ve stopped using any other fuels.”  BURN is rolling out its revolutionary induction cookers across Africa, allowing customers to transition from inefficient traditional stoves to zero-emission cooking. These stoves are made affordable with carbon credit finance, reducing end-user costs by 60-90%. Thanks to real-time monitoring of electricity usage, they also generate the highest-integrity MMECD carbon credits.     BURN has distributed ~5 million clean cooking appliances across Africa, reduced indoor air pollution by 65-100%, and protected forests by saving over 16M tons of wood.   Join our clean cooking revolution: burnstoves.com

BURN’s Head of Carbon Strategy, Molly Brown, joined industry leaders this week at the Eastern Africa Regional Carbon Market Dialogue to discuss how carbon finance is enabling us to bring electric cooking to households across the continent.   Carbon finance remains the most effective mechanism to subsidize electric cooking at scale, making products like our cellular-enabled IoT ECOA Induction Cooker accessible to the 600 million people in Africa already connected to the grid. Our projects use Gold Standard’s MMECD methodology, providing the transparency and accountability to ensure that we generate the highest-quality carbon credits. With carbon regulations across East Africa nearing finalization, now is the time to push for approvals and unlock the full potential of these projects. The future of cooking in Africa is electric, and BURN is driving a just, scalable, and sustainable electric cooking transition.  Join our clean cooking revolution: burnstoves.com

BURN is thrilled to announce that we have been chosen by Fast Company as the #2 Most Innovative Company in Europe, the Middle East and Africa! BURN’s unique approach of blending in-country modern manufacturing, digital tracking, and home delivery is revolutionizing the clean cooking sector. Since 2011 we have sold 5.2 million biomass, LPG, and electric cooking appliances, including a cellular-enabled IoT Induction Cooker that is bringing zero-emission, smoke-free cooking to households across Africa. Carbon credit finance makes these stoves affordable, and the high-integrity, ICVCM/CCP and CORSIA eligible credits they generate sell for ~$25 per ton. Three-stone fires and inefficient traditional stoves kill 600,000 people on the continent per year, and eliminating indoor air pollution can save millions of lives. We are now positioned to roll out our lifesaving products to the 950 million people across the continent who still rely on dirty and inefficient stoves.    A huge thanks to everyone who believed in us and made this possible! Maureen Wanjiru recalls the day her smoky kerosene stove tipped over and lit a chair on fire. With young children nearby, the danger was too great to ignore. “It was so dangerous for the kids,” she says. “I was terrified they’d get burned – or worse.” That was when she knew she needed a better way to cook. Today Maureen uses BURN’s cellular-enabled IoT ECOA Induction Cooker (iC), which is both safer for her family and less expensive to use – instead of the $2.80 per day she used to spend on cooking fuel, she now uses just $1.16 per day on electricity. On the myECOA app, she can see how much energy her induction cooker uses every time she cooks. “Before I got my ECOA, I didn’t think I could afford to cook with electricity,” she says. “But now that I have used it, I know it’s saving me money.” BURN is rolling out its revolutionary induction cookers across Africa, improving lives and saving money for families like Maureen’s. Our innovative “Pay-as-you-Cook” financing makes the cooker affordable. And thanks to real-time monitoring of electricity usage, BURN is able to generate the highest-integrity MMECD carbon credits. BURN has distributed ~5 million clean cooking appliances, helping reduce 29 million tons of carbon emissions. Join our clean cooking revolution: burnstoves.com
