About us
The Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) is a centre established under Strathmore Law School. Our Mission is to study, create, and share knowledge on the development of intellectual property and information technology, especially as they contribute to African Law and Human Rights. The Centre is founded on the research gap existing on intellectual property protection. Our research projects include but are not limited to IP aspects relating to a variety of subjects, ICT and media law; and Cybersecurity regulation. We have also partnered with other IP organizations in the globe to facilitate our research here in Kenya. The CIPIT team has members drawn from full time researchers, admin staff, and interns recruited from the Law School. The research team comprises of both local and global research experts. The Centre’s current budget is funded by research projects from various partners. Our research activities generate funds for our sustainability, through undertaking projects with the partner organizations.

Nwulite Obodo which is Igbo for raising, reviving and/or building the community, is a response to the needs and challenges of data scientists, researchers and social entrepreneurs and data contribution communities across Africa regarding existing open data licenses. It incorporates revisions to existing open data licenses and advocates principles that make sharing and reusing African datasets easier, effective and most importantly, equitable.
