#OrgSpotlight: Dignitas Project Founded in 2008, Dignitas has emerged as a pioneering force in education, dedicated to equipping and empowering school leaders and teachers who are poised to transform opportunities for the next generation. Through strategic partnerships with schools, Dignitas is revolutionizing education with innovative programs that emphasize instructional leadership, learner engagement, and a thriving classroom culture—all to enhance learner outcomes. By the close of 2023, Dignitas had joined forces with over 1,469 schools and 6,209 educators, positively impacting the learning experiences of 375,498 children across Kenya's 10 counties. Beyond Kenya, Dignitas has also extended its reach, having previously implemented programs in South Sudan, and now supporting initiatives in Uganda and Tanzania, with growing interest across East and West Africa. A key component of Dignitas's approach is the use of WhatsApp to create dedicated peer learning groups. These groups, with clearly defined goals for participants, provide a dynamic platform for sharing resources such as learning materials, tips, and educational videos. The collaborative environment encourages active engagement through discussions, reflections, Q&A sessions, and regular progress updates, fostering a vibrant community of practice. In collaboration with Dignitas, EdTech East Africa is also leveraging WhatsApp as a low-tech platform to share resources and strengthen foundational learning efforts. We’re excited to join the East African Community Regional Education Conference in Arusha, Tanzania, to explore innovative ways of improving learning outcomes. Mercy Munialo will represent Dignitas in a panel discussion tomorrow, 14th August, focused on harnessing technology to reach marginalized learners and ensure equitable access to quality education.
