About us

Import Promotion Desk (IPD) is an initiative to promote imports in Germany. It promotes the establishment of durable, long-term trade relations between importers and tour operators in Germany and Europe and companies from selected partner countries. Since 2012, we have been supporting importers and tour operators in their search for overseas business partners, opening up new supply sources for them in selected developing countries and emerging markets. And, for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the partner countries, we facilitate access to the EU market. In doing so, we contribute towards lasting economic development in our partner countries and, with our work, form an important interface between development cooperation and foreign trade. IPD is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The globally active development organisation sequa gGmbH is responsible for setting up and implementing the IPD in close cooperation with the German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services Association. (BGA). IPD is currently active in 21 partner countries and five product groups. Partner countries: Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Cambodia, Côte d'Ivoire, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Product groups: - Fresh produce - Natural ingredients for food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics - Sustainable seafood - Cut flowers - Sustainable tourism - IT Outsourcing The Import Promotion Desk (IPD) is part of the newly-founded development policy network "Partners in Transformation - Business & Development Network". The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is bundling its programmes for economic actors in this new network. ❓ How often is a new product introduced in your industry? I'm not talking about a new variety or variation of an existing product, but something completly new. In cut flowers, that rarely ever happens. ✨ That's why I'm certain that the Flor de Inírida from the Colombian grower Liwi will be the big star of IFTF, that opens its doors today. Already during the set up of our stand, a lot of the florists passing by were asking questions about this cute red spiky flower. 🌍 When I first went to visit the company together with Matthias Hucke last year, my Colombian friends asked me what the heck I'm doing in Inírida. It's a remote - but hauntingly beautiful - place in the Colombian region Guainía, close to the border with Venezuela. Employment opportunities are scarce. Liwi took the endangered Guacamaya Superba plant and over years developed a method to propagate it. The company is remarkable case of the combination of sustainable production, biodiversity protection and economic development. 🇪🇺 Now they're finally able to market in Europe! I'm very proud to be part of their journey and look forward to introducing you to the company and Lucas toledo on the IPD - Import Promotion Desk booth B4.20. Thanks to my partners at PROCOLOMBIA Walter Castaño Giraldo, Christian Mauricio Garcia Alvarez and Jhazzbleidy Jaimes for introducing us. We'll also have many more "star" companies at our booth representing a large range of summer flowers, roses, tropical flowers, foliage, hydrangeas and more from Colombia, Kenya and Ecuador!

🇪🇨 Back from Ecuador and Ecuador in Europe! 📍 Two weeks ago, I was in Ecuador with European importers to visit Expo Flor Ecuador and IPD’s new partner companies. 🙌 And I have to say, I was really impressed! After only the first few months in our program, I could already see great developments at the farms. I am very happy with the growers that Matthias Hucke and I selected during our visit back in May. For example, we started working with one of only two Lisianthus growers in Ecuador. Flores de Tumbabiro is currently building up a premium line specifically for the European market. 🌹 But also our new rose growers, Blumexpression, Golden Stems and Rose Success have to offer great quality product. 💡 And the good news is, you don’t have to travel to Ecuador to meet these suppliers, IPD - Import Promotion Desk is bringing them to #IFTF in two weeks 😊 You can find their profile (and many other farms) in our brochure: https://lnkd.in/eUsANUNH Contact me if your interested in meeting one of our suppliers or just visit our booth at B4.20 from November 6-8.

✨ Just back from inspiring days at the SIAL trade fair in Paris, and I’m still buzzing with ideas and new connections! One of my highlights was moderating the panel at our IPD #Women_in_Global_Trade kick-off event on Sunday. What a powerful moment! 🌍💼 Our mission at IPD - Import Promotion Desk is clear: to provide targeted support for women in global trade, and build a network where women can connect, empower, and elevate each other. Seeing exporters, importers, and business support organizations come together for this cause was truly motivating. We had the privilege of hearing from three incredible women, each sharing their personal journeys: - Yvette Tetteh, CEO & Co-Founder of Pure&Just (Ghana): Talked about reshaping female leadership, stressing that women don’t need to conform to traditional leadership roles. Yvette also reminded us to celebrate the journey, not just the results. Her belief that top-down interventions in female empowerment aren’t always effective resonated deeply. - Madurika Menikpura, Assistant Director, Sri Lankan Export Development Board: Highlighted the crucial role of governments in supporting female entrepreneurs and providing gender-sensitive services. Sri Lanka, with its history of female prime ministers and women in key roles at the EDB, serves as a powerful example. - Mariana Zamora, International Purchaser at Naturkost Übelhör (Germany): Shared her personal battle with gender bias when moving to Germany and applying as a mother for full-time positions. Mariana also stressed the importance of private-sector initiatives - importers can drive change by creating more opportunities for female producers in the Global South. The panel was so engaging that it flew by—and from the feedback, it could have gone much longer! Thank you to these remarkable women for sharing their wisdom. 🙏 I’m leaving Paris excited for the future of Women in Global Trade and what’s to come. Stay tuned for more initiatives that will further strengthen this global movement! 💪🌏 If you would like to know more about IPD’s support for women in business, have a look on our website: https://lnkd.in/eE-3Vgif
