This past Mashujaa Day 20/10/2024, we had a session with some of our outgrowers who are thriving in Macadamia farming. Worth recognition is that the majority of the outgrowers are female who are at the front line of agricultural development. Meet Esther, one of our Shujaa who through patience and resilience has been able to plant about 200 Macadamia trees and looks forward to a bountiful harvest. Ever wondered what takes place in a Macadamia curing facility. This is a specialized facility where freshly harvested macadamia nuts undergo a controlled drying and curing process to reduce their moisture content. Macadamia grading, packaging and labeling is amongst the last processes in the factory. Before this step the nuts have undergone various stages in a factory such as cracking, sorting and grading. On one of our random visits to the farm we met Magdalene who is one of our many outgrowers. We were keen to know on how her journey has been with us as an outgrower, and what has kept her coming back for the many years. For the past 50 years this August marking exactly 50, we have been supporting outgrowers also commonly known as small scale farmers, who grow Macadamia Nuts on their own farms. This has been through; providing free technical expertise or knowledge, selling fertilizers and seedlings propageted at our nursery at an affordable price.
