  • H.E. Arnaud Suquet, the French Ambassador to Kenya, visited Simbi Kogembo Dispensary in Homa Bay alongside county government officials and UNICEF representatives to assess the impact of the French Embassy-funded Nutrition Recovery and Resilience Project, implemented by UNICEF Kenya in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross. The funding supports nutrition resilience among communities vulnerable to floods by rolling out the Baby-Friendly Community Initiative in Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Busia counties. This initiative is integrated with Early Childhood Development activities in 40 centers across the four counties. Additionally, the project extends to Garissa, Tana River, Nairobi and Mombasa, where the focus is on scaling up community-level surveillance for acute malnutrition.

  • In Kisauni and Likoni, Mombasa, 2,000 young people are gaining life skills and economic opportunities to build a better future. Through the Youth Social and Economic Empowerment project, supported by the Danish Red Cross in Kenya and Ungdommens Røde Kors, they are learning decision-making, conflict resolution and financial literacy, preparing them for jobs and entrepreneurship. From stronger communities to sustainable livelihoods, every skill learned is a step toward lasting change.

  • With cholera reported in Migori yesterday, the Kenya Red Cross is on the ground taking action. Today, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the County Department of Health, we visited affected health facilities, distributed chlorine granules for disinfection and supported Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) demonstrations. More supplies are arriving this evening as we scale up efforts, including health personnel deployment, community sensitization and household sanitation support.

  • With communities at the heart of our work, we are restoring forests, wetlands, and mangroves—natural defenses against floods and droughts. The Kenya Red Cross and WWF partnership is working to conserve 900 hectares, with more to come. Thanks to funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, we are proving that protecting nature means protecting people.

180 farmers in Kilifi are rebuilding their livelihoods after last year’s floods, thanks to support from the British Red Cross. They received essential seeds—maize, green grams, sorghum and millet—along with training on improved farming practices. With ongoing follow-ups from agricultural officers, these farmers are not just recovering but building resilience for the future.

  • We are in Garissa for a two-day Impact-Based Forecasting session under Anticipatory Action, bringing together key stakeholders from the National and County Governments, UN agencies and other partners—turning forecasts into action. With the March-May rainfall forecast now out, we are not just asking what the weather will be, but what it will do—helping communities prepare, respond and stay ahead.

We are excited to announce that the British Red Cross and WWF-UK have teamed up for the first time, thanks to funds raised by players of People's Postcode Lottery! Together, we are supporting local communities in Kenya - at risk from droughts, floods and water shortages- to restore forests, floodplains, wetlands, mangroves and a freshwater lake. We know that… - floodplains and wetlands can reduce the humanitarian impact of floods. - forests can improve the soil for farming and help protect people from droughts and hunger crises. - mangroves can provide a physical barrier from the damaging impact of storms. The project, led by WWF-Kenya and the Kenya Red Cross, aims to both protect people against the impacts of climate change like more extreme weather, and provide more habitats for wildlife and marine life. Building on work we’ve both done for decades. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/egzr4Gs5 The project is already underway, so stay tuned for updates! ------- #ClimateAction #WWF #BritishRedCross #PostcodeLottery #Kenya #NatureRestoration #PostcodeLotteryPeople
