KEPRO x Alliance Boys High School – Shaping Young Sustainability Champions! Through our #KEPRO Schools Program, we joined forces with Alliance Boys High School to inspire a new generation of environmental stewards. Over 300 students from the school's environment club came together to learn about proper waste management and their role in driving sustainability. The session emphasized segregation at source, reinforcing that a cleaner planet starts with responsible waste handling. The impact was so profound that it sparked a bold new mantra: "We are spreading the gospel of waste. Waste Chapter 1, Verse 1 says: My Waste, My Responsibility." This is more than just waste management—it’s a movement for accountability and change! #KEPROinAction #CircularEconomy #WasteResponsibility ✅ Plogging Kenya

Championing Circularity at the Nairobi Street Food Festival! As a leader in circularity, #KEPRO was proud to partner as the Sustainability Partner at the Nairobi Street Food Festival, an electrifying event that brought together 8,000+ attendees celebrating the diversity of food and culture in the country. Our goal? To drive a culture of responsible waste management and showcase the power of the circular economy especially on the recovery of post-consumer non-hazardous packaging which is our primary mandate. We ensured that no waste/trash left the grounds, providing bins and manpower to handle all waste thereafter directing all collected waste to a Material Recovery Facility managed by Tai Frontier. 📊 Impact at a Glance: 🔹 327 KGs of Food waste Recovered 🔹 200 KGs of Paper/Carton recovered 🔹 48 KGs of Metal Cans recovered 🔹 386KGs of Plastic Recovered 🔹 300 KGs of Glass Recovered 🔹 548 KGs of Non -recyclables Recovered 🔹 1809 KGs of Total waste Recovered To demonstrate the true value of proper disposal and circular solutions, we distributed free compost made from previously recycled food waste. This initiative highlights how waste can be transformed into valuable resources, reinforcing #KEPRO’s commitment to closing the loop on waste and driving Kenya toward a more sustainable, circular future. Bravo to Nairobi Street Food Festival for leading the way in sustainable events! #ZeroWasteFuture #KEPROinAction #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #NairobiStreetFoodFestival

Day 2 of our #CLT session in Murang’a was a success! We had the privilege of engaging a diverse group of stakeholders across the waste management value chain, including waste collectors, transporters, aggregators, recyclers, and local authorities. The session provided a platform to exchange valuable insights, fostering collaboration toward a more sustainable and inclusive waste management ecosystem. The Muranga County Public Health assistant director, Mr Phares Njue, shed light on the occupational health risks faced by waste workers and shared practical strategies for mitigating these risks, ensuring a safer working environment. Mr. Isaiah Mumo of KEPRO provided an in-depth overview of KEPRO’s role in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), explaining how compliance with #EPR regulations benefits various players in the waste management ecosystem. Mr. Waweru from the Kenya Association of Waste Recyclers (KAWR) emphasized the need for networking among different groups to improve their waste collection efforts, fostering stronger collaboration within the sector. Beyond that, we engaged the participants on what is the likely barrier to achieving #sustainable waste management. The majority agreed that #ignorance was a likely contributor, with others citing lack of awareness and enforcement as the other contributors. This emerged as a clear call to action for the government, NEMA, and other key stakeholders to strengthen enforcement and accelerate efforts toward a cleaner, healthier environment for all. #KEPROinAction #WasteManagement #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #JustTransition

The first day of the Consumer-Led Transformation (#CLT) in Murang’a County was marked by insightful discussions on the CLT initiative's mantra of #MyWasteMyResponsibility, the Waste Collectors' Toolkit, the Sustainable Waste Management Act of 2022, and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations of 2024. We were privileged to host key stakeholders, including representatives from the Murang’a County Government, NEMA, Murang’a University of Technology, and KEPRO members. Mary Magochi, the CECM of Murang’a County, emphasized the county’s critical role in driving behavioral change toward sustainable waste management. Additionally, Mercy Mathu from the Department of County Public Service & Solid Waste Management shared insights from Nyeri County, highlighting the importance of specialized waste collection trucks and the need to promote waste segregation at the source. catherine thaithi, the County Director of Environment - NEMA Muranga'a office, emphasized on the need for Public-Private Partnerships (#PPP) to be formed in a joint bid in achieving behavioral change. Godfrey Nakitare Nambafu, PhD from Murang'a University of Technology emphasized on the need to initiate research and innovation programs for troublesome waste fractions. James Odongo, the CEO of #KEPRO, highlighted the critical role of all the stakeholders in collective responsibility towards sustainable waste management. One of the most thought-provoking moments came when we engaged participants on the biggest barrier to changing waste management behaviors. The overarching challenge identified? A lack of #awareness. We look forward to day two as we continue these vital conversations and work toward practical solutions. #KEPROinAction
