KICTANet has played a crucial role in shaping ICT policies and advocating for data governance in Kenya. Since the enactment of the Data Protection Act in 2019, progress has been made, but challenges remain, particularly in compliance and public awareness. The recent AI Statement of Principles and Africa AI Convening, held in Nairobi, brought together key stakeholders to discuss the ethical development of Artificial Intelligence in Kenya. The event focused on crucial principles like safety, inclusivity, and trustworthiness, exploring how Kenya can play a leading role in shaping Africa's AI future. This significant gathering comes ahead of the AI Action Summit in Paris (February 10-11, 2025), which will convene global leaders, including heads of state, international organizations, businesses, academics, researchers, and civil society organizations. The Summit will look into the rapid advancements in AI and their profound impact on the future of work, public services, governance, and culture.
