It was an honor to lead the “Challenges of Last-Mile Distribution” panel at TechnoServe’s Market Linkages event organised by 'Implementing Inclusive Growth Strategies (IIGS)' program funded by Visa Foundation and the Millers for Nutrition program . The insights shared highlighted the innovative approaches key players are using to unlock value and address the unique needs of last-mile retailers. Here are some takeaways: 💡 Pezesha’s Embedded Finance empowers #retailers by integrating credit directly into suppliers’ workflows. This helps retailers access critical working #capital while building creditworthiness and improving financial literacy.Thank you Hilda Moraa for great insights. 🚀 Kyosk.app’s Eunie Khimulu Nyakundi discussed how their scaling Strategy leverages local #partnerships, warehouses, and #data-driven insights to reach underserved areas efficiently. The platform provides bulk ordering and last-mile delivery solutions, expanding their footprint in East and West Africa. 🌍 Bopinc’s 2Scale Market Activation Model (ATEAR: Attention, Trust, Experience, Action, Retention) shared by Njeru George focuses on deep consumer #engagement and cross-value chain partnerships, ensuring products reach and resonate with low-income communities. 🏪 National Duka Owners Umbrella Organization's Eric Mathenge reminded us that #Dukas are more than retailers – they’re community hubs. The organisation work to bringing Duka owners across the country together as members, support them to aggregate inventories and address supply chain challenges . It was clear that many of the challenges in last-mile distribution are, in fact, opportunities waiting to be unlocked through innovative #collaborations . Joyce Njogu, MCIM, Kenya Association of Manufacturers called on the stakeholders in the room to commit to collaborative partnerships. The building up of a formidable force, NDO The National Duka Owners Umbrella Organization (NDO) is an association/collective body representing the interests of shop (duka) owners. The organization, registered by Micro and Small Enterprise Authority, typically aim to support its members drawn across the republic of Kenya, through advocacy, connecting to resources, and facilitating networking opportunities. Our objectives in a nutshell: 1. Advocacy: Representing the interests of duka owners to government bodies and other stakeholders to influence policy and regulations that affect small businesses. 2. Networking: Creating opportunities for duka owners to connect, share experiences, and collaborate on business initiatives. 3. Training and Development: Offering workshops, training sessions, and resources to help duka owners improve their business operations, customer service, and management skills. 4. Access to Resources: Providing information on funding, supplies, and other resources that can help duka owners run their businesses more effectively. 5. Legal Assistance: Helping members address and navigate legal issues related to business operations, including permits, licensing, and compliance with local laws. MSMEs carry in themselves a seed of growth if given necessary conditions of germination and growth. Such conditions includes; access to funding, information, market, favourable government policies and training. #Formalization of the sector draws the attention of the eco system players to work together with the traders. This enables conversations to ensue concerning #quality products, #competitive prices improved #supply chain and removal of unhealthy competition. The disconnect between #public #policy implementers like #KRA is bridged through the formalized association. Are we talking about numbers alone? Certainly not. The micro economic unit of production, retail shop activities are being amplified to increase efficiency. The improved production will fuel the economy through creation of employment for the youth and increased level of income. This is the source of economic growth. This of course is aggregate terms, the macro level. Jean Baptiste Say's Law, 'supply creates its own demand'. The growth capacity of micro retails will fuel demand for more products from the manufacturers and processors. This means more jobs, growth of manufacturing sector. I mean, its a whole amplification which leads to #economic growth. The targeted growth of 24% for private investment in #vision2030 blue print is far from being realized. Through thriving of this sector, we look forward to closing the gap and surpass. The organization gonna make large imprints now and forever more. Watch this space
