📈 Exciting News for Kenya-Netherlands Bilateral Trade! On October 15th, the Terms of Reference of the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) between Kenya and the Netherlands were signed in Nairobi by Kenya’s PS of Trade, Alfred Ombudo K'Ombudo and the Dutch Vice Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Yvette van Eechoud. This JTC will serve as a forum for structured annual bilateral dialogue on trade, production and investments. The aim is to improve the business climate, access to markets and enhance economic cooperation between Kenya and The Netherlands. 🚀 Advancing Universal Health Coverage & Strengthening Partnerships in Kenya 🌍 On the 16th of October, participants in the Netherlands Life Sciences and Health Trade Mission attended the Lake Region Digital Health Conference 2024, held at Ciala Resort, Kisumu. Innovators, healthcare experts, and policymakers gathered to explore how digital health solutions can shape the future of healthcare in Kenya. In partnership with the Dutch Embassy, PharmAccess , and Task Force Health Care (TFHC) Netherlands, the conference highlighted the power of global partnerships in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Together, we are fostering resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability in healthcare delivery, empowering public-private collaborations for better health outcomes. The Netherlands remains committed to being a reliable partner in enhancing healthcare access across Kenyan counties. Additionally, a bilateral meeting took place between the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), represented by Prof. Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, County Governor of Kisumu; Dr. Gregory Ganda, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health in Kisumu County; Roselyne Omollo, CECM for Health in Homa Bay County (representing the Governor of Homa Bay County); and the Netherlands, led by Vice Minister of Foreign Economic Affairs Yvette van Eechoud and Deputy Ambassador Joris van Bommel. This meeting underscored the strong relationship between the Netherlands and Kenya in the healthcare sector, particularly in Kisumu and Homa Bay counties. 🌍 Field Visit Highlights: LSH Trade Mission in Nairobi 🇰🇪 Yesterday, the LSH Trade Mission connected with key healthcare stakeholders in Nairobi. The day began at Population Services International (PSI) Digital Health Hub Kenya. PSI aims to improve consumer health and well-being by using digital technologies. PSI works alongside governments worldwide to deliver digital health innovations and improve public and private partnerships. Next, the trade mission attended the opening of Skills Meducation's new Kenyan branch. This is a direct result of the 2022 LSH trade mission, which helped Skills Meducation to make the choice. With over 30 years of experience, Skills Meducation offers a unique portfolio of medical training and simulation products, specializing in setting up skills labs and training centers for medical schools across East and West Africa. We had the opportunity to experience their SkillsLab demo, showcasing their expertise in healthcare education Last field visit was to AAR Hospital, where their advancements in private healthcare delivery and their role in enhancing Kenya’s healthcare referral system and healthcare financing were explored. These multiple visits highlight how innovation within the private sector drives developments benefiting both public and private healthcare sectors. The day concluded with a networking reception at the Ambassador’s residence. Remarks from Yvette van Eechoud, Hans Docter and Jules Delahaije highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between Dutch and Kenyan business partners. Together with the 18 participating companies from the trade mission and members of the Netherlands Business Hub Kenya, the event provided an excellent opportunity to exchange contacts and explore potential business ventures in Kenya. Wings For Aid also showcased their innovative drone technology, which is revolutionizing the delivery of humanitarian aid, adding an interactive touch to the evening.
