In celebration of the #internationaldayofthegirl, FEMNET - African Women's Development and Communication Network, in partnership with POLYCOM GIRLS 💛💙💖, proudly hosted adolescent girls and boys for an engaging conversation around the #Beijing30 agenda. The Adolescents discussed the 12 critical areas of the Beijing Platform for Action, shedding light on what has been working and what needs improvement in their communities. This feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the upcoming #BPFA30 conversations within the African region as we gear up for #CSW69,where the world will celebrate 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and reflect on the progress made. As an organization deeply committed to adolescent programming, POLYCOM GIRLS 💛💙💖 remains intentional about amplifying the voices of the younger generation. We are dedicated to ensuring that these voices are heard in global spaces, driving meaningful change & shaping a more inclusive future. Together, we can continue building movements that empower girls & boys alike, paving the way for transformative leadership and lasting progress. This powerful initiative boldly declares that there is #NoShameinMenstruation. This comic book marks a major milestone in the fight for #menstrualhealth equity in Kenya. Together, we are committed to ensuring that no girl misses out on education or life opportunities due to her period. Now is the time for policymakers, health providers, and community leaders to step up, provide menstrual information, provide free sanitary products, improve school sanitation & break the stigma. 💪🏾 Let’s create a future where every girl thrives, free from period poverty and shame. Denmark and Kenya centre local stakeholders in conversations about Human Rights 🌍📢 Last week, we hosted the Fifth Edition of the Human Rights Café to discuss “Accelerating Women's Rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Kenya”. The discussion brought together representatives from Kenyan organisations specialising in youth and adolescence, women in media, foundations, Plan International Kenya, and law 💬 By uniting these diverse voices, we create a space where experts share insights that lead to action in local communities. This session provided a valuable platform to address progress and challenges in women's rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in Kenya 📢 Key topics included: ⚖️ Gender-based violence 🚫 Prevention of early child marriage 🩸 Access to menstrual care, contraception, and HIV testing The group highlighted the importance of ongoing advocacy to ensure every woman and girl in Kenya receives the healthcare and rights they deserve. We say their names. We honour them. Earlier this month, once again, headlines illustrated the terrifying state of gender-based violence. Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan long-distance runner, Olympian and mother of two was murdered by her former partner in Kenya. Gisèle Pélicot, a French survivor was subjected to years of violence, abuse and rape after her husband repeatedly drugged her. The trial is currently underway and includes 51 defendants. Gender-based violence in all its forms is not passive but the language used to describe it is.
