Too often, women entrepreneurs in marginalized communities, who have tirelessly run their businesses for years are overlooked and undervalued, their entrepreneurial spirit unrecognized. When we host forums for business owners, these remarkable women are seldom seen as the target audience, their contributions overshadowed by societal norms and discriminatory perceptions. Compounded by a myriad of challenges and injustices, these women have become accustomed to the sidelines, and their businesses have followed suit. For too long, the playing field of financial inclusion has been uneven, and the truth is, it may never be truly level. There may never be a separate field created solely for micro-entrepreneurs. The economies of scale may never be influenced in their favor simply because they operate at a disadvantage. Read more on our efforts aimed at shattering this paradigm, bringing forth the greatness that lies within each woman, and awakening the CEO within, by creating channels and ensuring accessibility to the very resources other entrepreneurs tap into – financial education, mentorship, and access to credit. https://lnkd.in/d8MjiypV
About us
SheEO – a visionary force deeply embedded in grassroots initiatives across Kenya. Our pride lies in delivering a Micro-Enterprise Accelerator Program, a transformative initiative crafted for women in low-income and marginalized African communities. With a focus on imparting crucial business skills, emphasizing financial literacy, and providing hands-on mentorship and capital, we empower these resilient women to nurture and expand their businesses with unwavering brilliance. According to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, goal number 5 is gender equality which aims at empowering all women and girls, financial inclusion is a key component. Goal number 8 is decent work and economic growth, a key focus area for SheEO. The women we engage are mainly micro-entrepreneurs who are in the informal sectors and marginalized areas. Banks and other financial institutions lack products fit for this category of women and this is the problem we seek to solve.

It's been a while since I posted something on here. We've been on a tight schedule. Happy to announce we've just wrapped up the SheEO Foundation Financial Literacy training for our first pilot with 3 cohorts in 2 different communities. The journey has been nothing short of amazing. It's satisfying to hear all the great testimonials. A lot can happen in such a short time if you set the goals and put in the efforts to achieve them. I am humbled to have been blessed enough to witness the incredible transformation firsthand. You can hear from the incredible women sharing how SheEO training has transformed their entrepreneurial journeys on our Youtube Channel: https://lnkd.in/dUPgedM9 Now onto Mentorship!!! Real Stories. Today, as part of sharing our founder's journey and the lessons she is learning in her leadership course, we are zeroing in on what we are doing as an organization to achieve gender equality. We are proud to have achieved gender parity in leadership, with 67% of our board members and 100% of our program management team being women. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to gender equality, not just in our mission but within our organization itself. As of 2023, UN Women reported that globally, women held just 28.2% of management positions in the workplace. Other facts showed that globally, over 2.7 billion women are legally restricted from having the same choice of jobs as men. There has been some modest recovery since, but even then, there is still work for us to do to ensure gender parity.

In the training session today, one of the group discussions challenged us to discuss the challenges that prevent women from taking up leadership roles. It was a great exchange. One of the things that came out is that we still have much to do and individual roles to play by encouraging and supporting women to take up leadership roles. This got me thinking about gender parity, of course globally but more on what I am doing as an individual to illustrate I am actively closing the gender gap and setting an example for gender parity in the not-for-profit sector as I lead SheEO Foundation. Here is how we are achieving gender parity at SheEO Foundation: While globally women only hold 29% of senior management roles and 25% of board seats, At SheEO we have surpassed these numbers. With 67% of our Board members and 100% of our Program Management team being women, we are proudly leading by example and setting new standards for gender equality. We believe that empowered women make the strongest advocates for other women. This is why we are committed to putting women at the helm of everything we do. From leadership to program delivery. Join us as we continue to drive impactful change for women entrepreneurs! #GenderParity #SocialImpact #Equality

Did you know that as of 2023, there were approximately 150 million women-owned businesses that are contributing significantly to the global economy? Sadly, despite their critical role in driving local economies and fostering sustainable development, women-owned businesses, especially those in marginalized communities, face a lot of challenges in accessing capital. ⭐Now, Numbers Don't Lie⭐ 1. Only 27% of women-owned businesses have access to formal funding needed to either start or expand their businesses Compared to 40% of their male counterparts. 2. $1.7 trillion is the estimated global credit gap for women-owned MSMEs, even though they contribute over $1.9 trillion annually to the global economy and create about 1.9 million jobs each year, creating employment opportunities in their communities. 3. Here is the shocker 😲: Reports show that if women entrepreneurs had the same access to funding as their male counterparts, global GDP could rise by $5 trillion. Investing in women-owned businesses is contributing to job creation and community empowerment. Yet, access to capital for these women continues to be a major barrier, especially in marginalized communities. 💡 We all can change this narrative. Support women-led businesses by investing in inclusive finance initiatives and programs like SheEO Foundation MAP, which is committed to empowering women entrepreneurs in marginalized communities. A Grateful Heart and a Hopeful Vision Our Founder is currently taking a Self-development & Leadership training and here is what she had to share with us after her session today. “Today's session opened my eyes to so many insights. It made me realize just how blessed I have been, and also how easy it is to move on with life without really acknowledging our journeys, the milestones, and without really knowing ourselves! To develop, we must first discover ourselves. The focus for me today is to look back at my journey and understand where I am so that I can be in a position to plan where I am going and how I will get there. Looking back, I see how God has carefully ordered my steps. I see those who have been ahead of me who held my hand and gave me opportunities. I see parents who not only opened doors but have throughout been supportive, challenged me, and allowed me to make mistakes—all while guiding me with love and wisdom. What excites me most is the hope I now have to channel the wisdom I'm gaining from this training. I am committed to using the lessons to make a lasting impact, not just in my life but in how I lead and grow Sheeo Foundation For now, I am pausing to give thanks for all that's unfolding and the opportunities ahead.” We can’t wait to see the incredible impact that will come from this new found inspiration! Stay tuned for more updates as she continues to learn and grow. 🙏🏻 #selfimprovement #Grateful #leadership #growthmindset
