"We, as humanity, this year are going to produce 500 million metric tons of plastic, of which 400 million metric tons are going to end up as waste in the environment." At a United Nations event this week on sustainable lifestyles, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee Jyoti Mathur-Filipp stressed how plastic waste is overwhelming our planet. Without urgent intervention, this waste will continue to flood our oceans, ecosystems, and even make its way into people’s bodies. Finalizing an ambitious #PlasticsTreaty offers a critical chance to change course and drive global action to #BeatPlasticPollution. Watch the full event here: https://lnkd.in/dxpy62ie
