Is the Metaverse the future of the internet? Ever since Facebook changed their name to Meta, bringing more eyes to the word 'Metaverse', the world has had a lot to say about it. Many believe it is the future of #socialmedia, online meetings and virtual events, making the value of #virtualland skyrocket to never-seen-before levels in a matter of few months. To put this in perspective, the top 3 metaverses had weekly land sale volumes of over 100M at the beginning of the year. Big tech like Microsoft, Nvidia and Apple have not been left behind in investing in this novel technology, with each pushing a product either in software e.g NVIDIA's #omniverse or hardware like Apple #ARglasses. Major fashion brands have spotted the golden opportunity in the metaverse like Nike acquiring RTKFT Studios, a virtual brand making virtual sneakers and collectibles. J.P. Morgan became the first bank to have a virtual bank in the Decentraland metaverse. This is after predicting that the Metaverse will accrue a value of $1 Trillion/year by 2030. It is safe to say celebrities are never late in jumping onto new trneds. Artists have ditched the old way of organising virtual events and are now hosting more interactive events in the #metaverse. Snoop Dog has a virtual mansion for events where his fans can enter with their avatars too. Every major brand, artist, and online community wants to be a part of the metaverse. Virtual Reality #VR as a gateway to exploring the Cosmos 🤔 Today I decided to create a short short film on a concept I have been fantasizing about for a while now, since it involves topics I think about every day. VR Space exploration, of course with the help of AI, thanks #ChatGPT, #Midjourney, and #Kling :) Growing up in the countryside as a young boy, I was always mesmerized by the night sky, the stars, the moon, what is it like out there? Are there other realities? Will I ever go out there one day or is my destiny forever limited to this giant floating rock called Earth? In my early 20s, my curiosity turned to obsession transformed me into a space enthusiast, and I religiously follow SpaceX and NASA missions. Yes, I'm one of those people. Watching the recent SpaceX Polaris Dawn mission on VR had me thinking, what if I was able to actually have the same experience as the astronauts? Attaching a 360 Camera on them would have given me the immersive experience I needed. By Elon's estimates, we will be sending humans to Mars by 2028, #ExtendedRealities tech is also growing at a disruptive pace and Starlink will be available on the Moon and Mars. Future Space suits could have AR video call capabilities to enable holographic communications with people on Earth. I envision the convergence of Space and XR will lead to a new golden age in space exploration in the next few years. New exciting experiences for enthusiasts, virtual tours of the moon or Mars, and the ability to have remotely controlled spaceships using #VR which might allow remote asteroid mining in the near future. Maybe we don't all need to leave Earth to visit the Moon, Mars, and be with the stars. #AIvideo #Spaceexploration #AR #VR

Meta Orion - a new era in Spatial computing? #MetaConnect2024 In 2021, Mark Zuckerburg announced rebranding Facebook to Meta and greatly increased Meta Reality Labs(Previously Oculus) funding to over $10 Billion per year, in an ambitious move to shift focus to the #metaverse. I knew we would experience a new paradigm shift in online interactions and a new era in spatial computing and #extendedrealities. Today Meta announced their first consumer holographic AR glasses, Meta Orion, although still a prototype, I believe it's the first step towards a truly AR future, where the physical world will be integrated into the internet and vice versa. Imagine having video calls, co-working, shopping, playing games, attending parties, etc in holograms. Have you watched Free Guy? Yes, that but IRL. Exciting, right? 😀 Orion glasses are super small compared to all other AR glasses and will be controlled by hand controls and a neural interface, made possible by a wristband. Today Meta announced a bunch of other cool updates including: - Upgraded Ray-Ban Meta Smartglasses with real-time AI video processing. - A new Meta Quest 3S for $299 - Updates to the Meta Horizon OS with support for 2D mobile apps. - Meta AI with voice controls in all their mobile apps. - Meta AI translations etc. Considering Meta owns 4 of the top messaging and social media apps, it's safe to bet on the future of the augmented internet.
