The Project, Canada World: Voice for Women and Girls, is a four-year media-development project targeting media, civil society and women's rights organizations, academic institutions, decision-makers, and other key stakeholders advocating for human rights. #JHRInKenya is seeking to hire research consultants to help in providing the project implementation plan with the needed information to establish baseline data for its objectives, and help evaluate the project’s impact after concluding all of its activities.

About us
VWGRs (Voice for Women and Girls' Rights) Kenya is a project by Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), Canada’s leading media development organization. JHRs goal - to make everyone in the world fully aware of their rights - is as unique as it is powerful. Since JHR’s founding in 2002, the organization has worked tirelessly to strengthen independent media in sub-Saharan Africa by building the capacity of local journalists to report ethically and effectively on human rights and good governance issues. JHR’s work ensures the media can play its rightful role as a referee between state and civil society. The more people are aware and free to discuss human rights, the more they will hold their governments to account, leading to improved public services, less corruption, better economic opportunities and stronger democratic processes.

‘Beyond The Screen: Hidden Voices of Online Abuse’ is a survivor-centered short film highlighting the prevalence of online sexual violence around the world. Four individuals share their experiences and demands for what urgently needs to be done to protect children online. The film showcases the powerful truth that violence, which might start in an online sphere, negatively impacts children in the physical world, such as bullying in school or acts of sexual violence perpetrated at home. I’ll never forget the countless times I’ve faced hesitation and silence from women, whether in person or via virtual interviews. As a journalist dedicated to amplifying women’s voices, I’ve struggled to overcome this barrier. Despite genuine efforts to engage, many decline or show reluctance. At the Pan African discussion on “Bridging the Gender Gap in Media Representation” (hosted by Journalists for Human Rights (JHR)—Kenya, Voice for Women and Girls 🇰🇪 and African Women in Media), I sought expert advice. Thankfully, I received valuable insights. This moment held special significance. Three years ago, #AWiM gave me my first solo investigative writing gig. Now, I’m honored to share my expertise on media and journalism via the #SourceHer app. For me, gender empowerment begins with journalists. We can amplify marginalized voices and challenge norms. I’m proud to be part of this movement, grateful for platforms like AWiM and SourceHer. Kudos! Dr Yemisi Akinbobola, Blessing Agbo Ntamu PhD, D.
