NES Peach redraws explained

Why NES Peach Has Suddenly Become A Meme, Explained

The Super Mario princesses have long been the muses of redraw artists on social media, and recently, the community reached deep into history to draw inspiration, as the NES sprite of Peach from Super Mario Bros became a meme.

Why Did The NES Sprite Of Princess Peach Become A Meme?

While the 1985 sprite of Princess Peach has long inspired fan art, much like basically every appearance of Princess Peach, the proverbial dam was opened on September 9th, 2024, when artist @JUSTIN_CYR posted a redesign of the sprite of Princess Peach with a more slender figure and a defined face.

How Have Artists Redrawn Peach?

After @JUSTIN_CYR's post, artists were inspired to either also try their hand at improving the sprite or go the opposite route and make it look as, well, "derpy as possible." The fidelity of 1985's graphics was not kind to the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, and rather than making it better, artists took on the challenge of making it worse.

Others found plenty of humor in simply drawing an interpretation of the original sprite. Looking closely at 1985 Peach, it appears that she's standing with her mouth agape and giving a "finger gun." One can almost picture it going "eyyyyy," and many artists made pieces based on that interpretation.

MARIO!! EYYY... THIS GUY! ORIGINAL SPRITE WHAT IT'S PROBABLY SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE HOW IT ACTUALLY LOOKS

The trend adds to a lengthy list of Peach redraw memes, which includes the Peachette, Wapeach, Elephant Peach, and Super Mario Strikers Peach trends, to name a few.
