About
Living in 3017 is a phrase which originated on Twitter in May 2017. The full phrase is often a variation of "Y'all living in 2017, but this guy already in 3017" and used to caption a photo or video of a person demonstrating some kind of unusual pattern of thinking in solving mundane problems, often similar to a Life Hack.
Origin
The earliest known use of the phrase comes from Twitter user @MyFavsTrash[1] on May 9, 2017, in which the self-described shitposter posted a photo of a full box of Reese's Puffs with a hole cut in the top and milk being poured in (shown below). The tweet gained over 18,000 retweets and 41,000 likes.
Spread
In June 2017, the meme started gaining attention on various social media platforms. On June 11th, Twitter user @marissuh_x[6] tweeted an image of a card a man handed her with a scan code to his social media accounts with the phrase, gaining over 24,000 retweets and 71,000 likes (shown below, left). On June 9th, @ovaisbowss[7] tweeted an image of a man who aligned his Facebook profile picture and cover photo such that it looked as though his face was uninterrupted, saying he was living in 3017 (shown below, right). His tweet gained over 107,000 retweets and 223,000 likes.
The spread of the phrase caught the attention of several websites including PopBuzz,[2] "The Hook,"[3] and Smosh.[4] Twitter also created a moment[5] titled which compiled a selection of tweets using the phrase, describing them as "when you're too advanced for this millennium."
