The internet's favorite meme dog Kabosu, better known as Doge, is turning 18 tomorrow and Sakura City, Japan is set to roll out the red (or in this case, yellow) carpet in celebration of this monumental achievement.

Tomorrow, November 2nd, Sakura City will host its "first-ever "Doge Day," an official international holiday endorsed by the National Day Calendar that's marked by a live event in the city. The event is organized by Own The Doge, an online community of Doge lovers who collectively own the Doge meme NFT through $DOG.

The live event includes a grand opening by the city's mayor, a Doge-quiz, a Q&A panel featuring meme legends like Bad Luck Brian and Tay Zonday of "Chocolate Rain" fame and, perhaps most exciting of all, the unveiling of a bronze statue of Kabosu herself.

We spoke with a representative for Doge Day about setting up the inaugural event and they told us, "Our goal of Doge Day as mega Doge fans was to pay homage to Kabosu on her true [18th] birthday, a huge feat for any dog and a monumental achievement for the Doge who's been spreading smiles and happiness in the world for almost two decades."

According to the rep, Bad Luck Brian and Tay Zonday were chosen for the event because they "connected with the ethos of Doge, which is to Do Only Good Everyday, be your true self, and spread a little magic during our short lives on this little old rock we call our planetary home."

They also spoke about the creation of the bronze Doge statue and how much work went into it, stating:

"Building the statue took over a year […] We worked with all the legit Doge communities out there from Dogecoin to NFD to Own The Doge. We raised around $100,000 from the community. We spent hours upon hours planning with Atsuko Sato (Doge's owner) and Sakura City […] I think we ended up with the best possible outcome."

Ultimately, the event organizers tell us that they want Doge Day to be a grand celebration of what's arguably become the most well-known meme on the internet over the past decade. If you ask us, nothing says that quite like a bronze statue.

"At the end of Doge Day, I hope the world understands this incredible journey Kabosu/Doge have been on and how essential Atsuko has been in spreading that magic of a dog who makes the world happier," he told us. "If that's the one thing we can help Doge do, then I think that's a noble lifelong mission: spread more joy."
