The K9 Thunder is an evolutionary artillery for future mobile fires. At KADEX 2024, Hanwha Aerospace unveiled two futuristic concepts of the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer, the world's most popular artillery in service with 10 countries. • A wheeled-type K9 Mobile Howitzer : Based on a lighter platform than the existing track version, this mobile K9 artillery will enable rapid fire support and increased survivability by avoiding enemy counter-fires and drone threats. The mobile howitzer will be equipped with an automated modular turret, which can be mounted on different types of combat platforms. • An unmanned version of the K9 capable of remote-controlled driving and autonomous driving. Equipped with a 58 calibre gun, this uncrewed variant will feature the extended firing range of over 80 kilometers with a maximum firing rate of over 8 rounds per minute. • The K11A1 Fire Direction Control Vehicle is capable of remotely operating the unmanned K9 for shooting and driving. ** Homar-K in Nowa Deba ** A Polish variant of the K239 Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launch System (MRLS) developed by Hanwha Aerospace, the Homar-K is one of the key capabilities to defend Poland's eastern border and NATO's eastern flank. The 18th Artillery Regiment in Nowa Deba has successfully deployed 15 Homar-K systems, along with 24 K9A1 Self-Propelled Howitzers, with the deliveries of those artillery systems continuing on time as part of the executive contracts signed in 2022 and 2023. The Homar-K is regarded as the most successful project of ensuring Polish military modernization and growing industrial partnerships, as the rocket launcher is integrated with a hoard of Polish systems such as a chassis, communication and battle management systems. This is the first time the top leadership of the South Korean aerospace and defense giant has made a visit to the Polish artillery unit fielding the Korean artillery systems, under the 18th "Iron" Mechanized Division. A significant agreement was reached on Sept. 4 between South Korea's Hanwha Aerospace and the WB Group in Poland to cooperate on producing artillery rockets in Poland. Under the MoU, signed on the sidelines of the MSPO 2024 in Kielce, both companies will cooperate on manufacturing 80-km-range guided missiles (CGR-80) for the K239 Chunmoo MRLS through the relevant transfer of technology. The sides will also discuss ways of creating a joint venture for producing other types of artillery ammunition. The latest agreement represents Hanwha's unwavering commitment to enhancing industrial partnerships with Poland as well as delivering cutting-edge weapons systems.
